iPhone 12 yellow screen

i got my 12 pro yesterday, beautiful machine, but i started to notice some lack of color intensity, i've using an Iphone X for 3 years know, so something was off. I put the two side by side, displaying the same foto, exactly same settings, and it's sad, something is wrong with the 12 pro, the colors are sad and dead and "yellowish".

Any ideas ?

Hello Antonio! I found a solution that works for me and would work for you as well! My new iPhone 12 also had the yellow tint to it so I exchanged it at my local apple store and although the new one was better, it still had the tint to it. My solution is to actually change the color tint of the display by going into your settings < accessibility < display & text size < color filters < turn on and select color tint. You can scroll down and adjust the intensity and the hue. I have my intensity slider all the way to the left and my hue is about 80% to the right which adjust the tint to a more natural color. It has satisfied me and I hope it works well for you!

The issue is not only with brightness, but the display color. Yellowish does not disappear by playing with the light sensor. Not does the display get more maximum brightness. You can compensate it with the Color filter in Accessibility, but you cannot make the white pure white with just adjusting the Hue. It's always blueish, greenish, reddish or yellowish.

Lol that’s not an iPhone 10 you got there my friend, looks really big . Anyway I picked up the 12PM launch day and the yellow tint is frustrating. I’ve resorted to using the color filters and my eyes have somewhat adjusted to the new colors. Still I feel I should return the device because everytime I compare the screen to my iPhone X I just smh. It’s pitiful

Yes it is troubling!

In summary, it looks like all 12pm are having these issues. The variations in the responses on this thread are due to the fact that some notice them and some don’t. Some have another iPhone side by side to compare with and some don’t. Without another iPhone next to my 12pm I love it not being so bright to read text (note: like many others I tweaked the screen it to make the yellow tint whitish-grayish). I’d keep it if I didn’t care about photography. However, I believe that most ppl who got this phone also care about photography, and by nature pay more attention to those colors variations. While I still have it (didn’t returned it yet, but I’m about to). I played with it some more. I took an photo on it  edited it to my satisfaction. However, after editing, when I airdropped it to the 11pm iphone it looked hideous — like a face with way too much colorful makeup, if you will. Not a desirable result from >$1k phone. Apple can do better and whey should!

I’ve been doing some thinking. This problem only affects the 12 pro / max. Last year I think they had the same on the 11 pro / max. These screens on the 11/12 pro are the brightest they do - 800 nits as opposed to 650 nits on their other screens eg iPhone X that a lot of us have upgraded from. As a result the 12 pro max is rarely on anywhere close to peak brightness (where the colours look better). It’s usually half or less in my case. Whereas the X will be higher since it has a lower max brightness in terms of nits. Which may contribute to the screen appearing dull / dingy / off colour (ie yellow).

Just a theory. But my iPhone X is working perfectly fine. So I’ll probably return my 12 Pro Max and go back to the X, since it doesn’t feel like an upgrade due to the the screen issue. If Apple manage to fix the problem (and I don’t see how they could due to it seeming like a feature of the screen hardware) I’ll purchase the 12 Pro Max at a later date.

Just so you all know. I bought my 12 max and my wife's 12 pro. Her pro had a purple tint to it and so did the pictures. If she sent me a picture it looked fine on mine. Discovered that the 12's we have have color management on them. She had played with it and caused the issue. One I knew where to go for it I was able to get it back to normal.

Did all that and more but not a issue. This is factory issue. I’ve tried turning off True Tone, going into accessibility and playing with hues and nothing is 100%. Now they want me to take in the device however of course they are over booked because of Covid and I can’t go 2 weeks without my iPhone nor do I have $1400 hold on my credit card for express replacement. So Apple hope are you going to fix your issue in these $1400 devices?! Loyal Apple customer very angry over your lack of response or resolution!

I just received the iphone 12 pro. First thing i noticed when activated was the screen was lacking contrast and colours appeared off caused by a yellow tint. After hours going through all the settings and reading others comment about so-called fixes [that dont work] i find this very unacceptable for a product especially with quite a hefty price tag. You should not have to go and change display colour filters, warming tones etc etc.. to try and amend - this does not rectify the issue. I dont use true tone or night shift as this simply makes the issue worse. There is no true black or white on this screen.

As a printer and photographer i feel like Apple is taking the p*ss out of us by releasing such a poor quality item. Hence i have now arranged for a full refund and will return the phone. Some of you may not even notice the yellow tint as we all see colour differently but this does appear to be quite an issue as reported online and one i think we as consumers should not accept it.

Adding my voice to the noise. Apple fanboy here. I got an iPhone 12 Pro on Day 1 and went to post a photo I had edited on Lightroom on the Mac to IG and noticed it was WAY warmer on my phone. Went crazy and did side-by-side comparisons of older iPhones I have here, my iPad Pro, other Macs, and sure enough, the 12 Pro had a yellow-green color cast.

I made a Genius Bar appointment and compared my screen to the store models. The tint issue was present on all the 12 and 12 Pro models but not on any of the older phones. The genius didn't see what I was seeing and asserted I was being too picky. ...I returned the phone and have been using my X since.

Would love to upgrade to a 12 again but I can't as long as the screen issue persists. I'm a photographer and color is everything. Why spend all the time fussing with white balance and colors if they end up getting viewed on a phone that makes all that effort worth nothing? I'm assuming this is a known issue. It's the only screen in the Apple ecosystem, for at least the last 12 years I've been in it, that hasn't matched all the others.

I can't see anything in the update message suggesting it. I handed in my second 12Pro today because the screen was also yellow on this one. This time I got the store manager to compare it with a display model in the store and he took a picture of the screens and sent it with the phone to Apple. He could also identify that the colours on my sample were warmer more yellow and lacking contrast.

I am getting angry now. It is totally unacceptable that you can walk into a store and compare your sample side by side to a display sample and everyone can see that the screens are not looking the same. Still when I call Apple support they say that they can't see any faults and that a certain variance in colour is expected.

[Istanbul, Turkey] I bought an iPhone 12 128GB White, and its display was a very warm yellow. Then I tried every setting, and searched the web, and saw that a lot of people have the same problem. Then I returned it, and the 2nd unit came today, and yes, it is the same yellow display. Then I decided to return it for a refund; I cannot try over and over again for a pleasant display. By the way, yellow tinted display is not the only problem for me: Both devices have a low contrast and low brightness, especially when I compared them to my 8 Plus. I'll wait for a few months to buy it again. Good luck everyone.

I think that's the answer here. Give back your phone and get a full refund.

One of three things will happen:

  1. Apple fix the problem on the 12 pro - you can purchase the phone again.
  2. iPhone 13 has a "super retina pro max mighty white" display which fixes the problem.
  3. No fix - either embrace that all iPhone displays from now are amazingly warm in tone; or don't buy them.
