Cannot edit docs in Microsoft Word app

I recently purchased an iPad Pro, and downloaded the MS Word app. I have an Office 365 account and subscription.

I can create and edit new Word docs, but every time I open an old word doc that is saved in iCloud, it opens it but I cannot edit it at all... I cannot type, change font, anything... The only option is to create a copy and then edit that - but this is not what I want.

Has anyone come across this, and is there a solution?

Many thanks

Hello Sammy_car.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you are having some trouble with editing MS Word documents using your iPad though you do have a Microsoft 365 account. We will be glad to assist.

Try the following steps to set up your Office 365 account and link it to the MS Word app to see if it helps: Install and set up Office on an iPhone or iPad

If the problem persists, we would recommend contacting Microsoft Support:
