iPhone 12 Pro Lock Sound Issue

I just got my iPhone 12 Pro and found a very annoying issue with the lock sound and sometimes the keyboard typing sound.

The lock sound goes weird when it has been idle for a few seconds. If I start playing something, the lock sound of iPhone 12 Pro will stay normal for another few seconds.

Please see the video I took:

It happens after rebooting the device and happens all the time for me.

Is it only me or something wrong with the system?

Thanks

Hi,

Since this seems to be related to software issue, I have upgraded my iPhone 12 Pro to iOS 14.2 beta. And now the issue is gone. Looks like iOS dev team noticed and fixed this issue in the next update.

I would recommend everyone has this issue wait a bit for the next system update.

As far as I’m aware, the night mode feature is not that great, especially when you actually use it at night or in very low light situations. In medium light situations, like taking a picture inside with the ceiling light on, my night mode pictures turn out okay. They’re a bit grainy looking. But for taking a picture of darker indoor scenarios....it’s just not that good.

I have seen people post landscape photos, like downtown skylines or of people under street lamps, all while using night mode. And they seemed good quality. I personally haven’t tried those types of photos yet. But for indoor photos in very low light....night mode photos just aren’t good. They turn out much better for me if I use flash. Only downside of that is that it can be blinding for a few moments.

Today I had the chance to try the iPhone 12 Pro of a friend. And what can I say? It had the same robotic/synthetic/echoing sound problem. At first my friend told me he didn't have any sound issues but when we did some tests and comparing songs on my old Pixel 2 against the iPhone 12 Pro and my mini he also became aware of this problem. It's like "What Has Been Seen Cannot Be Unseen" but with hearing. So there seems to be a problem with the audio engine in conjunction with the built in speakers. Strangely it's not very obvious for most listeners at first without having a real comparison. Sadly I know how some songs and voices of audio book readers have to sound and immediately can hear if anything is very wrong.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with apple support. Mine is a 12 Pro Max (besides the sound lock issue) is has low fps un solitaire, camera problem that constantly is lagging in FaceTime and in night mode, like if the camera was on an iPhone 4. And battery issues. Today I woke up with 35% less percentage than other days. It’s draining faster by not using the phone.

You know, you can disable the lock sound in the meantime and still use the phone normally... why are you whining

this thread is for people looking for updates on the issue.

Still no fix after an update/beta? Ok, continue disabling the lock sound setting and use your phone

fix as come through? great, end of this thread and continue using your phone

I've had this issue basically since I purchased the phone last November. I was hoping for an iOS update that would fix it but I am currently on iOS 14.3 and the issue persists. I've tried both with the MagSafe case on and off, makes no difference whatsoever. When I restart the phone the issue is temporary fixed but soon enough (like 15 minutes after restarting) it starts again.

Hi,

i‘m not sure if that‘s really a software issue. It sounds more like a hardware problem to me. Maybe it has to do with the case covering up the speakers or something like that. I have the same problem too sometimes. I recently switched from an iPhone XS to an iPhone 12 Pro and the problem still occurs. So it’s definitely not a recent iOS problem because i got the problem on early iOS versions too.

I’m on iOS 14.4 but my keyboard still suddendly becomes loud. It’s like a fade in with system sounds. The first notification I get is pretty quiet and the second is a bit loud. I don’t even have a MagSafe. I just got an iPhone 12 Pro from 8 years of having an Android. Imagine how disappointed I am. So the problem is very not fixed.

Unfortunately, some of us are experiencing the same issue in messages notifications and other notifications as well. Although it is annoying to some, it is very difficult to have to keep looking at your phone to see if you have any text messages, emails or other notifications. Since I don’t use MagSafe save and never have it is obviously their software issue. They need to fix this since it renders messages especially, almost useless unless you are staring at the phone constantly.
