Headphone audio levels notification warning

I listen to music/spotify everyday and I just keep getting a notification that my volume is too loud.

Like 30min in on full volume and then I just get a warning about headphone audio levels, that my music/audio is playing too loud. And immediately the volume turns itself down to a half. Also the notification is just up there until I swipe it back up.

Is there any way to disable this? I looked into health app settings, iphone settings, searched for this on the internet but there is no one having this issue as me I guess?

It’s very unpleasant when for example I’m in the gym and I’m listening to music on my airpods. and then my music gets quiet so I need to drop the equipment to turn the volume back up.

Thanks in advance, Thomas

Good morning, xsull,

We understand that you need to stop your device from automatically warning you about the volume and adjusting your audio levels.

To change this setting, go to Settings > Sound & Haptics. Select Reduce Loud Sounds and then turn that feature off. This should prevent both the warning and the automatic adjustment. This article has more info:

Apple needs to fix this. It’s not only very annoying, it’s also dangerous i get this when I’m in my car and I have to swipe while driving on the highway. Also it mistakes everything for headphones and we should even be able to turn it off for headphones. I have the reduce loud sounds off so idk why this feature won’t turn off but it really should be fixed. My iphone 8 never did this but I upgraded to an iphone 12 and I can’t fix it

I play guitar through a Marshall amp with Bluetooth music streamed from my phone as a backing track through the amp. I’ve had the volume drop twice when playing live which is more than embarrassing! And I can’t turn the volume down on my phone to ‘legal’ levels because that would mean the amp would have to be turned up and then the balance between backing track and guitar is at a point where the guitar needs turning down so much that I lose tone. Can I suggest adding a feature to Bluetooth connected devices that lets the phone know they are not headphones and not to lower the volume? Or apple could just fix the bug!

Can this be fixed please. Even if it was only for headphones you shouldn’t dictate this to us, the fact it happens on my Bluetooth speakers is even worse as it’s simply bugged. In the car and my portable speakers keep having the volume turned down. Apple has so many good and negative points, if this feature isn’t removed I will be changing my life long loyalty to Apple as this tips the balance

This feature has been a real pain in the butt for me. I work construction and headphones are not a real good option I need to hear everyone else at work. This means I hook the phone up to the radio and now everyone has tunes. Now we are back to traditional radio and we are all sick of it. Problem is we all use IPhones and now they control our volume limit. Really it’s a nice sentiment Apple cares about my ears and everything, but this is a joke. I don’t need someone telling me my music is too loud. Really Apple you’re making the work day last even longer and longer everyday this abomination is still on the phone.

Hey guys I know it’s not much but I noticed I could turn the volume right back up using the slider after the 14.3 patch and I couldn’t do that before (I could only turn it back up with the buttons). So maybe there’s hope that apple is actually working on it and some stupid EU regulation is keeping them from fixing it. I just hope they fix it soon because even now it’s still annoying to say the least

Yes I live in Missouri. I cannot turn off this "featuere" (I tried both settings) and it tells me it is turning down my headphones, but I am using a $400 boombox-style bluetooth speaker. I called support twice and they just said I needed to upgrade the firmware in my speaker. But there is no firmware upgrade path for my 3-month old speaker that works just fine without this feature. My phone correctly identifies the exact model number for my speaker and lists it as a headphone data source.

I see that almost the whole world solves it. Is there any procedure or the only way is to leave the iphone mobile phone and switch to the Android OS from any brand? I tried to rent a phone from my friends and even the latest android has no problem with this nonsense. The headphones play quietly and even in cars there are big problems with them! NO ONE will dictate to me how to listen and at what volume should I listen to music.

If there's nothing you can do about it, then it's a good idea to discourage our entire company from buying about 500 employees to buy a new IP 12, mini, and about 100pcs Pro MAX. Very good idea, we would not think of that :-)

I bought the phone and use it as my primary music player and have a subscription to apple streaming services to play music - and now I cannot use it in my car or home without the volume muting constantly. To have a control on headphone volume is one thing - but having this feature mute the volume of Bluetooth devices that control the volume independently from the phone is totally unacceptable.

As far as I can tell with this update Apple have made my phone unfit for purpose - it no longer has functionality it was advertised as having when it was purchased.

If I took my car to the garage for a service and they gave it back, informing me that they had removed 5th gear so I could no longer drive on the motorway - do you think I would be happy or looking for a refund?

I don’t want my idiot phone telling me what volume to enjoy my music at. Besides, it is wrong. I am NOT listening to headphones, it’s a blue tooth stand alone speaker so it isn’t even correct on that! I am nearly half a century in age and I will decide what volume I want. We are all turning the volume straight back up anyway. The constant intrusion every ten minutes is making me consider unsubscribing from I-tunes and going back to my CDs at the volume I enjoy. You MUST allow the owner to decide for their own self the choice of enabling this function or not on your next updates please!!!
