Headphone audio levels notification warning

I listen to music/spotify everyday and I just keep getting a notification that my volume is too loud.

Like 30min in on full volume and then I just get a warning about headphone audio levels, that my music/audio is playing too loud. And immediately the volume turns itself down to a half. Also the notification is just up there until I swipe it back up.

Is there any way to disable this? I looked into health app settings, iphone settings, searched for this on the internet but there is no one having this issue as me I guess?

It’s very unpleasant when for example I’m in the gym and I’m listening to music on my airpods. and then my music gets quiet so I need to drop the equipment to turn the volume back up.

Thanks in advance, Thomas

Good morning, xsull,

We understand that you need to stop your device from automatically warning you about the volume and adjusting your audio levels.

To change this setting, go to Settings > Sound & Haptics. Select Reduce Loud Sounds and then turn that feature off. This should prevent both the warning and the automatic adjustment. This article has more info:

This feature is driving me crazy. Why in the world would I need it? If i wanted to “care” about my ears, i would’ve just listened to 50% volume from the start ...

This is a total deal-breaker for me. I’ve been using iphones since 2016 (i am at the 3rd iphone right now, 11pro) and i love iphones and Apple’s ecosystem, but if this feature continues to exist with the future software update, i am seriously considering switching to another brand. I use my phone mostly for photos and music, so this situation is unacceptable.

I hope Apple sees our concerns and cares about us at least just for a tiny bit ..

Sad and unacceptable. What am i spending 1200 euros on the phone for? And what am i spending 350 euros on a hifi pair of headphones for? And we are still supposed to bare all of Apple’s insanities - no charger, no headphones, features that they consider mandatory etcetera ...

i guess i’ll say farewell to Apple soon if this is not fixed. I made some research myself and I heard that OnePlus would be a great choise ... i would somehow choose Sony for the sake of memories, but i wouldn’t like to have problems with the OS ...

i hope Apple sorts this out though ...

That's right, our corporation plans to buy about 500 phones as always every 2-3 years, now it should be decided in January / February. But if it does not return to the original state, when it was possible to turn off the "sound control according to the EU" option, then we have an offer from Google or the OnePlus brand. Top phones with a pure android!

It's a pity, since 2000, our company has always bought only apple phones, but unfortunately today. Personally, I don't believe they would remove it. I tried about 20 android phones from my friends and the main advantage was that the phone played much louder and there was no nonsensical message + reduced volume!

Keep going Apple!

I am just wondering ... how could they even think of this? How could they come up with this idea? Didn’t they think it would affect their business? This is such a mess ...

I’ve already posted my 2 pairs of non-apple headphones online for sale .. if i can not enjoy them, why keep them?... if i move to android in the future, why not get myself a new pair of headphones at the right time?!...

You try listening to 'Neptune' from Holst's Planet Suite when you've cranked it up to full so you can hear it over the traffic noise only to have these busy-bodies turn it down for you. So you reach for the phone, clear the warning and bring the volume up again just as the bus hits you, because you were distracted. Once Biden gets sworn in, he'll stop this stupid embargo on Huawei and we can all have a great phone for half the price.... and, of course, listen to our music unmolested. Apple; You've gone too far!

This is a bug. It’s turning down the volume on Bluetooth speakers. I am in Missouri in the USA. And you reduce loud sounds feature is supposed to be for headphones. My boombox style bluetooth speaker is being treated like headphones in your

latest iOS releasd. Why won’t you issue a technical bulletin so I don’t have to convince tech support this is not an issue with me needing to restart my device? Your automated system sent me a survey asking how my recent call into Apple support went. That makes me assume you care about your customers. This thread is about a number of things but one of those is this bug where a new feature that is supposed to be about headphones is affecting users of Bluetooth speakers (some of which are designed to be cranked up). Why, Apple, do you send out a survey to me to try and improve your understanding of customer needs and your quality of customer service, but on the other hand fail to even acknowledge or respond to this thread? After weeks and weeks and weeks of reports on this thread. I called in twice and was told to update the firmware on my Bluetooth speaker (which is not a thing). Calling got me no resolution. I am asking you to spend less on your shiny circle building and more on your developers who fix bugs. They should scour these boards, acknowlege this bug (and all bugs that are reported by multiple users) and then go and fix it tomorrow. Anything else is a failure. It’s Apple giving up. Should we give up on you? I am sure you have policies on not responding to these things. But that’s just sad.

This must be the most stupid function of all time.

every ever say I use my phone to listen to music or pods etc and is one of the main reason I use my phone. At work I connect it to a speaker so I can walk around and so my job. Or use in the car.

but no no daddy Apple wants to save our ears.

I seriously was just about to upgrade to iPhone 12, by contacting my phone company. But this made me so frustrated that I no longer wanna do it. Shall I waste 2000 dollars for a phone and EarPods when my listening is limited?

what is even the point of buying bad *** headphones like the new from Apple if you can’t use the full power of it? Then it would be enough to buy headphones for 10 dollars. Since the quality of them won’t do any different if listening at low volume. Only way to compare good ones against bad ones is when at full volume, to compare the base and quality.

so ridiculous. Maybe next update the screen will turn black after 10 mins as well so save your eyes. Or censure word when typing messages.

Apple you are doing good phones. I have iMac. iPhone. iPad. Apple Watch and iPad. But a thong like this could make me choose another brand.

Its looking alot like this issue is not going to get fixed so, its also looking like apple is done for because alot of us are considering going to a different brand other than apple!

we had the same 12 megapixels camera for years now, other phones have 16 or more,

over 1000$ for a limited storage of 250 or more, other phones you can add storage,

bought a new set of airpods pro and now when i put them on and press the button to play , unless i get my iphone out of my pocket and let it scan my face, the airpods ignore my command, siri here lately ignores my commands or says sorry, something went wrong, things are getting worse than they were on iPhone 11 max, not to mention this nonsense of the music being turned down by it self when I purposely have it as louas possible because my coworker is an ******* and has his music so loud I can’t hear mine out of my AirPod when im only allowed one at the time for safety, apple, I’ve given you thousands upon thousands of dollars, only for you to tell me I can’t turn off this feature when on the settings it says i can, but when i do indeed turn it off it continues to cause the issue, yeah, i believe i speak for thousands of us when i say that we are entertaining the thought of never buying apple again! Unless you fix the issues, you are done for!

Apple.... Listen to your customers...Maybe some of us are war veterans, maybe some go to seahawks games ( it’s loud there ) or some ride Harleys. Either way we all hear sound differently. I listen to the Apple Music using Bluetooth in my car. (everyday). This sound warning comes up once or twice a day as I’m driving. The phone turns down my volume automatically so i cant hear the music or even talk radio! So I looked in my phone settings and there is no option to turn off this feature??!!! This is the dumbest feature ever! I could understand if It allowed me to have the option to control this feature.. but it doesn’t. I read some areas don’t have the option to turn this feature off.?! What??!! (maybe Washington State is that area?) still the dumbest thing ever! If I want to listen to music at certain sound levels that’s my choice. Apple you need to get your sh*t straight and fix this issue.
