Headphone audio levels notification warning

I listen to music/spotify everyday and I just keep getting a notification that my volume is too loud.

Like 30min in on full volume and then I just get a warning about headphone audio levels, that my music/audio is playing too loud. And immediately the volume turns itself down to a half. Also the notification is just up there until I swipe it back up.

Is there any way to disable this? I looked into health app settings, iphone settings, searched for this on the internet but there is no one having this issue as me I guess?

It’s very unpleasant when for example I’m in the gym and I’m listening to music on my airpods. and then my music gets quiet so I need to drop the equipment to turn the volume back up.

Thanks in advance, Thomas

Good morning, xsull,

We understand that you need to stop your device from automatically warning you about the volume and adjusting your audio levels.

To change this setting, go to Settings > Sound & Haptics. Select Reduce Loud Sounds and then turn that feature off. This should prevent both the warning and the automatic adjustment. This article has more info:

Adjust the volume on iPhone - Apple Support

We hope you have a great rest of your day!

Thank you for this information in how sort the volume issues out as its very much appreciated. I had wrote on this forum a while back with my anger towards apple for them implementing such a stupid thing as i need the volume being a bike rider. Now it appears thankfully they have listened to their customers. I rang them myself last Friday and spoke to someone senior about my frustration about the matter. But now i'am happy that apple have listened. And now i can listen to my sat nav via through my helmet with no fear of my volume going down to virtually nothing and nearly causing an accident.

Whilst it is great that they have given us work-arounds for iphone, unfortunately not so for apple watch, whilst I understand they believe you would only ever listen with headphones and not a bluetooth speaker, regardless there may be occaisions where one might choose to do this. So for me the problem isn't diminished as with the current climate I don't take my phone out currently to take advantage of changes in 14.4, so I guess I will have to continue to suffer in half silence....because with covid I don't like cross contaminating my belongings, it is ssfaer to leave my phone at home and just take my watch with me.

Essentially whilst this work-around may please and appease the vast majority of users, personally I still feel as though Apple have over-stepped their remit. There are other ways to enact safety protocols without being so invasive and I believe Apple should continue to look at this and make better and more broad refinements across all their mobile audio devices and not just the iphone.

Ok Guys update time!

First things first credit where credit is due... Thank you Apple for finally doing something, though it would have been better not to put your customers at odds with their own equipment to begin with, needless to say I digress.

So I can now listen to music with my headphones on without the volume dropping finally on my apple watch series 6, sure I'm still geting the notification and would prefer an option to acknowledge notification once instead of every half hour but I'll take the partial win.

Please never let our right to decide what we do with regards our own bodies ever be compromised again.

Thank you

I actually wasn’t having this problem until I updated my phone to 14.4 the other night and now it’s a problem in my truck. That’s the only one actually, it doesn’t care about my headphones. Even after I turn my phone volume back up, after a while it decreases again. I have tried every fix action mentioned in all 11 pages. I went in and reclassified my truck as a “speaker”, still having issues. This is so stupid. I don’t want to turn my truck volume up to compensate for my phone turning itself down because then every sound my truck makes IS THAT MUCH LOUDER. As someone who’s on the road a lot this type of feature is enough to make me consider getting rid of my iPhone, so if anyone else has any fixes they’ve managed to find please let me know.

THIS! Do I really need 45 yes that’s right.. FORTY. FIVE. notifications in a 20 minute walk with the phone turning the volume down fragment by fragment?! Completely ruined my music enjoyment as every few seconds there’s a notification. Just stop already - this should be like screen time - it’s my choice to turn it on and off. Looking at the screen for too long strains eyes so why taking control of my hearing?! Ridiculous

Great question. I too have this issue. I put my phone on an Apple charging base, which is plugged into my Bose speaker. I adjust the volume from my Bose, but my iPhone is on full volume to maximize the sound quality. My iPhone 12 Pro recognizes this setup as a headphone, which it is not. The idea to save my hearing is a good one, but clearly, this was not thought through by the engineers. We need to have the option to disable this "feature".

Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've been looking everywhere on how to turn this off and I'm quite upset that you can't. I've been listening to headphones for over 20 years and still passing my hearing tests. Regardless, we all know we shouldn't but it still be OUR CHOICE to turn it off. Then add in the fact it happens while I'm bluetooth'ed to a speaker as well in the shower and can't do anything about it. I don't want to make peace with this but I could as long as it doesn't turn my speakers down. This is step 1 in making me consider an Android and I've happily had Apple for 10+ years.

I have tried every single fix action the internet has suggested. I’ve also dug through every setting on my truck (though it’s the phone volume that turns down). I’m glad to hear someone else isn’t having any luck. I’m also super annoyed and about done with smart phones period. There’s no autonomy and updates are pushed out without the option to opt in or out. I want my flip phone back. :(

This "feature" is not well thought out Apple. We get your "nanny" helpfulness to try to help us avoid hearing damage (and likely future lawsuits toward Apple) but there needs to be additional thought into this implementation. If I can sign some sort of affidavit/confirmation allowing me to override this, it would be ideal. I'm in the same boat as others, I have a BLUETOOTH aux device and the volume is controlled separately on that device. My Iphone is not smart enough to know the device I'm connected to is at a lower volume...or is in a loud area, etc. This is a completely HORRIBLE feature that is enough to make me want to jump ship from Apple altogether...and that's a big statement as I have been with Apple since the IP3....FIX THIS APPLE, BEFORE YOU LOSE MORE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE!
