Netflix video on Safari doesn't play on external monitor on Catalina

Hi

I am using the latest version of Mac OS Catalina and using Safari to play Netflix. I have extended display on and when I try to play Netflix on the monitor I do not see anything but audio. However, when I move the safari window to MacBook Pro native display then the video plays. If I duplicate my displays then it doesn't play either. I tried playing the same using another browser and it works perfectly fine. Not sure if this is a Safari issue or Netflix issue. Any solutions for this?

Monitor being used is DELL P2412H.

MacBook Pro is 13inch model from 2017 with function keys.

Hey there mvikred,

We'd like to help get Safari working with videos on your external display.

It sounds like you've narrowed it down specifically to Safari as Netflix videos play on your second display without any issues. Let's start ruling out some possible causes:

  1. You mentioned having macOS Catalina installed, but is the version number currently installed macOS 10.15.7? You can check this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner, then on 'About This Mac'.
  2. Have you already tried a restart of your Mac? If not, here's how: Log out, sleep, restart, or shut down your Mac
  3. Besides the external display, is there anything else connected to your Mac? If yes, please disconnect them, then test for the same issue only with your external display connected.

We look forward to hearing back from you, and take care!
