Apple TV browser app

Why not have a browser app for the Apple TV? Past comments have decried the lack of a mouse, but could not the trackpad on the ATV remote act as a mouse substitute? And voice input could produce a list of search results, precluding the need to type in a url.

The YouTube app on Apple TV, for supported models, will have shortcuts for the YouTube Channels that you subscribe to, and also a Search field that is effective on video titles, channel names, and even ID string from the URL. AirPlay isn’t strictly needed for watching on the big screen.

The Apple TV is meant to be a media streamer and browsers have typically been poor experiences on TV platforms. Instead, airplay was provided as a means for streaming media and mirroring content (including webpages) from IOS and computer. You are free to give feedback on having a native browser, though I don't see it changing to be perfectly honest.

Then as pointed out by the other poster, the YouTube app on ATV can easily pull up the video if you want to view it directly. That hardly constitutes the need for a browser. I wouldn’t call airplay clumsy on that basis. Frankly, if anything is clumsy it’s the browser experience on other TV platforms that have tried to implement it, and there is a reason why it isn’t included here. The trackpad and Siri would not make as big an impact on that as you think.
