why is navigating Apple TV so hard?

Why is getting back to the main screen almost impossible, unless you just kill the app and start over? You can press on a program, and decide it’s not the one only to be trapped in that program with no way out, the back button does nothing, only end works, which kills the app and you start all over. It’s really annoying!

why not an back arrow like Netflix has? Simple but effective.

this is not for the Apple TV streamer device, but the app on a TV. You use the remote of the TV to control the app.

yet, it’s a remote for my cable TV. Back button does nothing, only exit. Netflix has the back arrow right on the screen.

Netflix guide is simple and and effective no matter what remote you use. That’s where Apple fails.

Another thing, it’s really not clear where you landed on the main screen, you have no clear idea where you are pointed, it’s very subtle. Yes it’s raised slightly, but if you have to really look at it to see it. Nothing clear like a bold ring to make it clear.

I have a LG TV like you and the back arrow on the LG remote does take me back to the last screen viewed, Once on the main page if I hit the back arrow again, it will bring up the option to exit the app. I have had no trouble navigating the Apple TV+ app using the LG remote control. Not sure why you are experiencing that behavior on your TV.

Are you using the AppleTV+ app through your cable service or the app that is on your TV? I have the app available on my Xfinity Cable service and also on the LG TV. I choose to use the app from the LG TV instead of the app on my cable box, because it appears that the TV app has better picture quality. I am not a big fan of the Xfinity TV service in general, but they do have great internet speeds.

I do agree that the selected show should be emphasized more and a border would help.

No just the TV, my provider uses a set top box no other programing is on it. So the LG TV remote doesn’t pair with the set top box easily. So I use the cable providers remote, besides, it’s not listed in the LG universal remote, so it’s limited on it’s ability. The Cable provider does pick up the TV so that’s what I use, it works great for everything, except Apple TV. Which has no on screen navigation built in, Netflix does.

One grip that’s not Apple’s fault, why is it we are in 2023 and there is not a good universal remote available? Harmony is now been pulled and no longer available, or if you want, you can pay a tech a couple of hundred to program your URC remote that’s $300+ for a couple of pieces of gear. It’s what one calls a 1st world problem.

ps, URC did make a good universal remote, MX-810, but it’s been pulled, URC pulled it. It was about the best user friendly remote, with ability to do activities and learn, plus other functions.

it had a nice screen display with icons you could import, like local stations and the like. URC just needed to clean up the program and make it simpler. But that didn’t happen. Sadly, it’s no longer supported, so it’s frozen in time. Software is Windows XP based too!

Yea, it’s the only solution, using two remotes. Seems it’s not possible, unless you want to spend hundreds to fix it. As Apple navigating is not the best. It’s just not accounting for many remotes with limited abilities.

URC is like Sony, brings out killer products way ahead of itself and then shelves them, lack of vision. Like Sony’s Location Free tv tablet, it was an Ipad that did email, surf, and watch TV! Guess what Sony did? Killed it!
