Apple TV verification failed Fire Cube tv

I have a Fire TV cube 2nd generation that won’t allow me to sign into the Apple TV app. I get “Verification Failed” when I try to Sign In on Mobile Device, Sign In on This TV and Create Apple ID.

My connect is working. Apple TV is allowing me to watch trailers and free content.

Following the instructions of a previous post I reset the Cube to factory settings and ran the Cube updates several times and restarted the Cube. Then installed the Apple TV app again and issue remains.

This is the sequence I used to fix the exact same issue:

ONE: Make sure your Amazon Fire TV Cube (Gen.2) is updated. First, I Reset to Factory Default ( basically I started from scratch which might not need to be a step), Settings, My Fire TV, About, Check for Updates. Make sure you continue to download and install until it says "Your Fire TV is up to date" under Last Checked. I had to leave mine overnight before it said "Your Fire TV is up to date" (Jan.3, 2021, Current Version is Fire OS 7.2.2.9 (PS7229/1850)).

TWO: Restart your Amazon Fire TV Cube: Settings, My Fire TV, Restart

THREE: Clear Cashe, Clear data, then uninstall the app: (I don't know if you need to do it in sequence or not). Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications, Apple TV, Clear Cashe, Clear Data, Clear Data, Uninstall.

FOUR: Restart your Amazon Fire TV Cube again. Settings, My Fire TV, Restart

FIVE: Re-install the Apple TV App: Search, Apple TV, Install, Launch App

SIX: After entering the app I went into my account (Order at the top is Watch now, Library, Search, Account). I chose to "Sign-in using Apple ID" NOT "Sign-in using Mobile Device" not that that has anything to do with it, but it then asked for a Verification number from another Apple Device.

This was a two-day process for me and I had tried all of the steps I mentioned in different orders, but this was the ONLY order that worked for me. The fact that it took me two days may have been a factor so that the Amazon Fire TV Cube could download other "Stuff".

I hope this works for anyone else experiencing difficulties.

-Cheers!

Guys and girls this is my solution that worked today.

I too have had this problem for 3 days since getting a new firestick 4K.

my advice that worked for me

reset to factory settings

automatically let it update after signing into amazon account.

there are at least 3 updates

the latest ones are :

software version fire os 6.2.7.6 (NS6276/2933)

fire tv home version 6242054.1

once updates start take the firestick out the HDMI but leave it plugged in, wait at least 3 hours and check if updates are all as they should be above. (The home version is the final update and not obvious)

if they aren’t then restart and again take it out the HDMI and wait again.

i had the same error verification failed, it has nothing to do with 2 way authentication As it wouldn’t even let me sign in or create a new account

try downloading Apple TV and see if this works.

if it doesn’t..... Then further restart and leave overnight for 8 hours, again plugged in to power ...

this morning it finally worked after getting it Sunday. (It’s now Tuesdays) and QR code came up and no more verification failed error.

its a ball ache to wait but the above method does work.

If you have just created an Apple ID account, then check your mail for the verification request.

If you have just created an Apple ID account, then you still need to add an Apple TV+ subscription to it, to watch all of the Apple TV+ content.

If you have an existing Apple ID account with an activated Apple TV+ subscription, then you should be able to sign in normally, and start watching.

After two days of speaking to Amazon help and Apple "geniuses" (who are beyond useless and just sent me step-by-step instructions as if I had never used or seen a computer before), what worked for me is this:

  • Make sure your Fire TV stick has the latest firmware. My Fire TV>About>Check for updates.
  • If Apple app is installed, uninstall it.
  • Restart Fire stick
  • Install Apple TV app

Now, i did have to do the above twice, but on the second time, it worked and I am now logged in.

I have the problem on the Fire TV Stick 4K, so it's not just the cube.

Latest firmware (NS6.2.7.6/2933)

Factory reset

Reinstall the apple tv+ app

Definitely an app issue as everything else works fine.

Ive also noticed its been a problem going way back to November 2019.

I thought it might be that 2 form authentication was enabled but it even happens when going to "create apple id"

Amazon also inform me its an issue with the app so Apple and Amazon need to work on fixing it.

After a year of reading the same issues, I'm not so sure.

No luxury here of using ethernet but tried 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz.

It's working for me now.

Got home from work, fired up the TV, started apple tv+ app. Chose sign in from mobile and up popped the QR code.

Now up and running.

My bet was an apple server issue as I had done nothing from the time it last didn't work to when it worked today. Firestick was already updated to latest firmware.

All good for me.

Those with issues still just uninstall the apple tv+ app, restart firestick and then install the app again and see if it helps.

If not try the instructions as mentioned in previous comment :)

To be fair, I think it's the apple tv+ servers or authentication process.

I couldn't sign up to apple tv+ on anything other than the app on iPhone.

Via the web it asked me to enter a bank card to verify I can watch items on the Web.

Entered my bank card, tapped next and a red error message told me that I cannot enter a bank card for verification purposes.

Regarding Firestick TV 4K, there's no luxury of ethernet unless buying a separate module, this shouldn't be necessary nor is it feasible.

It's also impossible to reach apple support on this issue...

Apple have a vested interested in apple tv+ or they wouldn't make the 3rd party app for select devices, so it's in their interest to fix it.

Its unlikely a change in the firestick TV 4K firmware that's caused it because this issue has been present for over a year with no clear explanation.

Shame

In theory it shouldn't make any difference.

The issue seems to be that it accepts some devices users have but not others.

Hence we arrive with the situation that some users have successfully got it working and others haven't.

It must be to do with apples tv+ servers and there must be a layer of verification with the device serial number before it allows a user to then proceed with sign in.

Hence we can't even create an apple ID through the firestick app.

It's allowing some users devices but not others.

I have this issue too. Spoke to Amazon and they are aware of the issue. The old solutions used to be either:

1 - update firmware on Fire Stick

2 - switch off 2FA on your Apple account.

But I have the latest firmware and Apple don't allow you to turn off 2FA any more, so we need a new fix. Apple need to update their Apple TV+ app so it works!

Nov 23, 2020 6:03 AM in response to glen01

I had a feeling 2FA might be part of it but this usually comes after the sign in process.

Of course the verification failed issue comes before.

Yes, apple state that if you've previously used 2FA you can't disable it.

I guess we have to see what updates apple can provide if any and work with amazon.

Last app update was 3rd November 2020 to v5.1 adding Japan support.

I don't know if apple even read these posts and pass on to developer team.

I have the same problem with a new Amazon Fire Cube which I got to replace a Fire stick (because the cube has better WiFi). The 4K stick worked fine with Apple TV+. I also have an Apple TV, which, of course, works fine with Apple TV+, but so do all my numerous Roku's. It's just the Amazon Fire Cube (2019) that obstinately refuses verification. And, I've uninstalled the App, rebooted the cube, and done all the usual fixes for balky apps.
