iPhone 12 pro won’t wirelessly charge

Picked up new phone. It will not charge on my Qi wireless charger. My family members’ iPhone X and 11 charge fine. Mine initially shows the green battery, then it disconnects from charging and the charger flashes a blue LED, signifying it is no longer connected. This despite using different charger blocks.

Have any of you tried a Forced Restart?

  1. Press and quickly release volume up button
  2. Then press and quickly release volume down button
  3. Then press and KEEP HOLDING side power button (keep holding past the swipe to shut down) until you see the Apple Logo, then let go.

Once your phone restarts and you sign back in, see if you can charge your phone on your Qi charger.

I had posted about this problem with my iPhone 12Pro. As an update. After the latest patch was installed 14.2 the issue went away but with a little side note. I use a Nanami Fast Charger stand and because of the lenses the phone would not sit flat and charge if it was not in a case. When I put on the clear Apple case it sat flat and charged just fine.

I'm convinced it's the placement of the Magsafe in the phone. We didn't have this hardware limitation with previous model phones. iPhone 12 is a new design. It's not that it won't play with Qi chargers. It's that many Qi chargers were never designed with Magsafe in mind, which I'm sure is the case with most chargers with only one charging plate as opposed to dual. As soon as I replaced my older chargers with dual plate charging and higher output QC3.0 bricks, there are simply no issues charging on the new ones.

I have same issue- charger shows connected, but phone not receiving charge

hard reset of phone corrects but appears only for short period, as mine has done it stdin

I noticed that when placing on charger, it either connects straight away or pauses- if pauses, it won’t charge

as a reset corrects, it does point to software since the charger works on other models and AirPods etc

It unfortunately didn't work here. Tried with the case, without the case, is connects to the charger, says it's charging, but in the morning still with the same battery percentage from the night before, some times with 2 to 3% of increasing. I have to believe the magnets from magsafe is interfering. The same is happening in the car. Just to bad for an overpriced product that doesn't even comes with its own charger.

This is SO frustrating! I went out and purchased two more Qi chargers that advertised (works with iPhone 12) and both are sketchy at best. I have to constantly adjust and wiggle the phone on the base to get a connection and then sometimes it only lasts for a few minutes and stops charging. The sensitivity and/or "hot spot" on these new phones is TERRIBLE!!!!! At least with all third party wireless chargers. Note that all of these chargers work great with our family's iPhone 11, X and 8.

Apple really screwed up on this one. If an update doesn't fix it, then I'm going to return my 12 Pro Max and go back to the 11 as I rely on easy wireless charging at my desk, in my car, and on my bedside table. I refuse to fight with the connection and wake up another morning with a dead phone.

Another update (12/4/20):

I just spent over 3 hours with at least 4 different Apple support technicians on the phone last night. The last senior advisor basically said that Apple has not officially acknowledged that there is a wide-spread problem with iPhone 12 and 12 Pro phones having wireless charging issues as "these phones are relatively new". Not sure I can accept that as they had to have had a long QA period to fully test these. I pointed them to this forum and none of them showed much interest or could validate the accuracy of the posts. Really?

Rather, they made me go through all of the known steps that most of us have reported here (reboot phone, hard reset, ensure latest iOS update is installed, try different chargers, make sure the power supply plug is 20W, remove cases, try different positions on the chargers). NONE of these of course worked with my phone. The final suggestion was to do a full encrypted backup to a Mac, reset the phone to factory default using the plug and hold button procedure, and then do a full restore from the encrypted backup). And that did not make a difference either (as I expected).

So, now they recommended that I call back and submit a request to have a NEW replacement phone mailed to me and they will put a hold on my credit card until I send the other one back. I'm not confident this will fix the problem either but maybe there is just a bad "lot" of phones that got shipped out with this hardware problem? None of the tech support people could confirm that a future iOS update would fix the problem, and even that won't happen unless Apple development can see that it is a widespread problem. This will only happen if ALL of us reports this to their tech support.

I also got the official Apple MagSafe charger with their 20W adapter and it too is a little glitchy when charging. I have to position the iPhone 12 Pro Max in EXACTLY the perfect position or it won't charge. And while it is charging, if it gets bumped or nudged even a slight bit then it stops charging. My wireless car charger, and 4 other wireless chargers in my home office, bedroom, and family room all work fine with my family's other iPhones (X, XS, and 11 Pro) -- all with cases and all charge instantly when placed on the chargers. My 12 Pro Max fails to charge on all of them (all different brands).

If this is an issue with not having the proper Qc3 power adapter for charging, why can’t Apple just say that OR include it with the dang phone! Problem Solved?

I’ve noticed some comments saying the MagSafe charger is not working either. I would assume people are just using the old power adapters with the MagSafe thinking it will work. The MagSafe does not come with the 20w power adapter which is required to work “properly”.

It works perfectly with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max. I imagine it would also work with 12 Mini, but I don't have a Mini to test it with.

The value of this charging stand from Geekera is it charges Apple Watch, iPhone and has a 5W charger on the back of the stand for additional devices which use Qi standard, like AirPods Pro or other Bluetooth earbud charging cases (Jabra Elite 85t in my case). If you don't need the other two options, you might want to spend less and look at chargers which are dual plate and at least 18W QC3.0.

This charger you got on Amazon you are saying works well with the 12? I have a 12 mini and think it’s worth a shot to try.

The charging system on the iPhone 11 Pro is different than that of the iPhone 12 series. The iPhone 12 series is configured for the MagSafe and those appear to be the devices that people are complaining about. The iPhone 11 pro should work with any Qi compatible wireless charger. You may just need to check positioning. I know that the iPhone 11 Pro that I had worked great with my Belkin wireless charger, and my iPhone 12 Pro is working just fine with it as well. I've also got the MagSafe with the 20w power adapter and it works fine as well.

Sorry, but that is not right. My iPhone 11 Pro works with almost no wireless charger. I have the same issue like many users stated here with the 12. It just works when I turn it off and put it on the charger. However, after picking it up it wont work anymore.

I am not the only one. There are other iPhone 11 Pro user in another thread which complain about the same problem.

Dec 9, 2020 8:48 AM in response to stroh_hut

I understand that, but this thread IS about iPhone 12. Not wireless charging in general. iPhone 12 has a different charging system than iPhone 11. The charging plate in iPhone 12 has been moved to accommodate MagSafe. iPhone 11 is different in this regard.

You should start your own thread about the issue you're having with iPhone 11 as opposed to diluting a thread which is specific to a different model phone than you own.
