iPhone 12 pro won’t wirelessly charge

I talked over the phone with Apple, they claimed I'm the first and only one that report problem. When I told them about this thread just then decided to escalate. Mine charge after restart but after an hour won't charge. Family have iPhone X and all 3 charge right away.

So I am having the same problem this is when it is in the vertical position, if I turn the phone horizontally it charges. If I remove the case it will charge vertically. I know its not the case because it charges horizontally just not sure why it doesnt with the case on. i find it strange

What I'm seeing in a lot of the posts is incompatibility with some wireless chargers. They may not output enough power. They may have their charging coils in the wrong location, since iPhone 12 phones now have the coil for charging directly in the center of the phone for use with a Magsafe charger if someone wants to invest in that.

I would imagine the charger you own is either a single coil Qi charger or the coils are too low to effective connect with the center coil in the back of the phone. I had one charger which was single coil. It didn't charge our iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro. Our other chargers output a higher wattage and are dual coil, so they seem to work.

You may need to buy a better quality charger, with higher output and dual coils.

So if I turn the phone horizontally it will charge with the case on. If I turn it vertically it will not charge. With the case off it charges in both positions. I have two charges that respond the same way. I’ve purchased another charger will see if it makes a difference

It's the charger and it likely only has one charging plate in it. Is the new charger you purchased one which includes at least an 18W QC3.0 charging brick and dual charging plates in it?

One of our chargers wouldn't charge either phone, so I bought two of these and they're fantastic and the phones charge perfectly on them. They also charge our Apple Watch and there's a plate to charge my Jabra Elite 85t charging case and it has an 18W QC3.0 brick and dual chargers in the main stand for the phone. Not exactly inexpensive, but it works and it works really great.

Received my iPhone 12 Pro Max 11/13. It worked fine in my new Silverado with a factory charger as well as two wireless charging cradles in the house. It stopped working with all of them on Monday 11/16. On Tuesday, I read about rebooting the phone. That made it start working again. Today it quit again on all chargers and a reboot made it start working again. My wifes iPhone 11 works fine with all of the chargers and never has an issue.

This is obviously a problem with the iPhone 12 and is not a problem with the chargers

You have updated to iOS 14.2.1? Just an FYI I was having this issue until I purchased newer wireless chargers. Since buying newer chargers with dual charging plates and 18W QC3.0 charging bricks, our iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max are charging without hiccup wirelessly.

Mine is on 14.2.1. It will be difficult to replace my chargers, since the one I rely on most is built in to my 2020 Silverado ;) I have no idea how many charging coils are in the truck, but it works with 3 different new Samsungs, worked fine with my iPhone 11, works with my wife's iPhone 11 and works reliably with my 12Pro Max for several days at a stretch. When it quits working on any charger, it quits on all chargers, not like it is intermittent. I'm not buying it being a charger issue, since it works reliably in all my chargers for several days between reboots.

At family we have 3 iPhone X and all works perfectly at all chargers we have at home, just my 12 Pro is the one who fails, once a reboot works for a while. I talked with Apple by chat and then over the phone and they "haven't received any complains" about this. When I have the guy link to this discussion everything changed. I visited AT&T and tested wireless charger they have specially for iPhone 12 Pro and didn't works.

14.2.1 did not make a difference for us. All of our old Qi chargers still don’t work. Only one works when the iPhone 12 Pro Max is laying sideways which is not convenient. Both wireless car chargers also don’t work. ALL of them work fine with wife’s 11 Pro, daughter’s Xs and another X.

Buying new chargers is a workaround but totally useless when it comes to using complimentary chargers supplied at our local cafes and establishments.

I ordered new chargers (2 from Amazon) which all work fine with the 12.

if Apple can’t address this with a firmware update then this is a major goof on their design.

I got new chargers and they all work great with our 12 and 12 Pro Max. Saying it's a fail if the new phones don't work with 3rd party accessories some bought long ago may not be super fair. I suspect it's all about the placement of the Magsafe charger in the new phones. As customers, we'll have to move up to accessories which do work with our new phones. Technology keeps marching forward.

I've not updated to iOS 14.2.1 on my iPhone 12, but it works just fine with my Belkin Qi charger. It did from the day I bought it. I'm not saying you are incorrect, but you might want to contact Apple Support if you are still experiencing problems and see what they say.

I updated to 14.2.1 last night and finally got my 12 Pro Max to charger on my Belkin charger. Whether it will last or not I cannot say. I'm sure you're on to the answer when you write "about the placement of the Magsafe charger in the new phones."

When I put my phone flat on the charger it did not charge, when I moved it so that it was on a slight angle (because of the lenses) it started to charge.

I had posted about this problem with my iPhone 12Pro. As an update. After the latest patch was installed 14.2 the issue went away but with a little side note. I use a Nanami Fast Charger stand and because of the lenses the phone would not sit flat and charge if it was not in a case. When I put on the clear Apple case it sat flat and charged just fine.

I'm convinced it's the placement of the Magsafe in the phone. We didn't have this hardware limitation with previous model phones. iPhone 12 is a new design. It's not that it won't play with Qi chargers. It's that many Qi chargers were never designed with Magsafe in mind, which I'm sure is the case with most chargers with only one charging plate as opposed to dual. As soon as I replaced my older chargers with dual plate charging and higher output QC3.0 bricks, there are simply no issues charging on the new ones.
