iPhone 12 Pro portrait mode problem
So my new phone seems to have some real problems with portrait mode. I can't even begin to understand what the software is thinking with this. Anyone else having this problem?

I went to the Apple store and they said it was likely due to restoring my iPhone 12 Pro from a backup of my previous iPhone X. Sometimes restoration from older phones carries forward bugs/incompatibilities with newer phones. They ran a hardware diagnostic and said there were no issues, so with my permission they erased my phone and initiated it from scratch. I then restored all my purchases via the App Store (I did lose some app data unfortunately since you can’t selectively restore it from backup, and had to rearrange all my home screens but not the most useless exercise). But, I no longer have any issues with portrait mode. Pix looks great. So, that may be the problem/solution for many of you.

No. I can remove the portrait mode bokeh if I edit it and click the yellow "Portrait" text at the top. But, if I turn it on again, I get the same result.
I took a bunch of portrait mode photos and they all turned out like this with varying degrees of awfulness. Even adjusting the depth of field in edit mode doesn't make it go away.
So I spoke with Apple tech support a few weeks ago about this and directed the rep to this thread. At the time I was still on 14.1 (as that’s what came on the phone), rep recommended updating (of course) as she believed there was a fix in 14.2 for this issue. After updating and doing a restart I have not had this issue again.
The pictures with the issue, like the original one I posted, are still messed up though. :-/
I also came from an older iPhone and transferred over to the new 12 pro, so I assume that’s the problem others have reported.
Exact same problem. Just got mine yesterday. Really disappointing. That said I’m guessing it’s a software problem that will hopefully be addressed ASAP.
I have I have the same problem. It’s so frustrating.
I am having the same problem which looks like a software related issue and request apple technical team to resolve it as earliest as possible.
Can anybody help me on this? iPhone 12 ProMax. Just a month old
just bought my iPhone yesterday and it does the same thing! Have you had any luck fixing this issue?
ok I know this sounds ridiculous but I just turned mine off and back on again and the problem seems to be gone lol
No luck on any of mine. Changing the lighting doesn't help either.
Mine too! My dogs look terrible in portrait mode! They used to look great on my iPhone X! The camera was the only reason I bought the phone! I am sad that I bought it and sent the other one back.
the problem fixed when I restarted the device but it’s happening again.
Yes me too and I did do a proper transfer from my XS to the 12 Pro Max. They better find a better fix then doing a fresh install- that’s no Apple quality!!!
Mine too!! No portrait mode and runs slow ☹️
Same.
Portrait mode and Photo mode look exactly the same on my iPhone 12. My son’s seems to work fine.
