iPhone 12 hot while charging

Just got my new 12 pro and it is getting pretty hot while charging even while connected. On my Anker wireless charger which worked just fine for the XS I used before its even worse

Is it just me and I have a problem or is it a general issue and I should not worry too much

As someone else posted, I think this may be a “start-up” phenomenon with a new iPhone. My iPhone 12 mini was hot for the first day while it was revving up all the programs for the first time. Second day and onward, it cooled down and began to operate as expected, ie as iPhones usually do.

In other words, this seems to be a one-time event while initializing a new, more powerful iPhone.

Of course, if heating continues, you have a problem and need to get to an Apple store.

I might know what the problem is. It was the same for me, but after a while it just behaves normal now just getting warm. Have you already initiated the restore from backup on your new phone. Looks like initially it is doing a lot of work in the background, like rebuilding hash tables etc. loading pictures... This plus charging makes it hot from what I can see.

Apple must definitely own up to this issue. My iPhone 12 Pro Max recently got hot while on MagSafe, then suddenly turned off and got stuck in a boot loop. I took it to my local apple store for help, and they told me it was totally unresponsive to their diagnostics and was essentially burnt inside. Thankfully, they replaced it free of charge on the spot, however again I am having issues with overheating and MagSafe making the device hot with the replacement! I mostly rely on MagSafe due to its convenience, however this is totally unacceptable. I currently use an Otterbox Gaming "cooling" case although I don't know how much the gel really helps, and live in fear of the phone catching fire on my desk when left on MagSafe. I suggest iPhone 12 Pro Max users like me stick to lower- wattage wireless chargers or wired chargers if they notice their phones getting toasty.

My 12 pro max gets pretty HOT when charging on a 18w charger. When it goes past 80 it cools down. I have it 2 weeks now, I disabled iCloud backup etc to see if this is the reason but no. The weird is that it gets hot right next to the camera until the middle of the phone, where the cpu and motherboard is so I don't think it is a battery problem but something else. Could it be software problem that will be fixed with update or resetting phone?

My iPhone 11 Pro used to have issues with my car wireless charger until the manufacturer replaced it. Today, my iPhone 12 Pro overheated in it to the point that it threw the “Your iPhone must cool down” dialog and was unusable until it cooled. It was in the transparent MagSafe case at the time. I took it out and cooled it in the AC draft.

I note that it didn’t seem to really charge, either. It was less than 50% when I got home, even though I drove with it in the charger for ~40 minutes. Any ideas for troubleshooting?

Mine is getting very warm during charging too. I put my ear to the back and can hear a sort of whining/crackling noise that stops immediately when I unplug the phone from the charger. My theory is it has to do with the difference in using Qi or MagSafe to charge.

My big question is what does this mean for CarPlay users? CarPlay charges your phone, so it continuously gets hotter. If someone were to take a 3-4 hour trip and have their phone plugged in for CarPlay directions that whole time, I imagine the phone would be way overheated by the end.

Please fix this Apple!

Yes I got a brand new one and its been a month and It is not getting warm anymore while charging. What I have noticed with my iPhone 12 as well as with my MacBook Air is that the charger as well as the device get hot when the charging is very low. However, it gets back to normal temperature as soon as the charge is above 90%. Could be a coincidence but that's what I am observing !
