iPhone 12 hot while charging

Just got my new 12 pro and it is getting pretty hot while charging even while connected. On my Anker wireless charger which worked just fine for the XS I used before its even worse

Is it just me and I have a problem or is it a general issue and I should not worry too much

As someone else posted, I think this may be a “start-up” phenomenon with a new iPhone. My iPhone 12 mini was hot for the first day while it was revving up all the programs for the first time. Second day and onward, it cooled down and began to operate as expected, ie as iPhones usually do.

In other words, this seems to be a one-time event while initializing a new, more powerful iPhone.

Of course, if heating continues, you have a problem and need to get to an Apple store.

The cable is not a charger. Arguably, the adapter (AC to DC) is not, either. The phones come with a cable but not an adapter. A “charger” is really the combination of a power source (usually an adapter, but sometimes a battery) and a cable. Although with modern iPhones, it could also be a Qi charger, which usually requires an adapter and cable or battery, too.

So “charger” is an ambiguous misnomer.

I just bought myself a brand new BMW Z4 with wireless charger. My iPhone 12 mini already ended up locking itself up in the ‘getting too hot jail’, effectively charging only +2%.

The dealership says to first contact Apple, because devices only use the power they designed to receive. It sounds reasonable, because a well designed circuit made for a same voltage level, but a lower current level will usually only take what is needed. Otherwise it gets in short or fire.

Now i found this thread, i know enough!

NB: the second time CarPlay and music were turned down.
