iOS14 keypad during phone call not registering with automated phone calls

When I make a call that requires you to select an option by pressing a keypad button (like "press 1 if you wish to make an appointment," etc.), my phone does not register the pressed button and then drops the call. This is extremely annoying. I am probably doing something wrong. Please help. Thanks.
