Unable to login to Google only in iOS Safari

I have an iPhone SE (2nd generation), iOS version 14.1.

I have not been able to login to any Google accounts using iOS Safari. I can load https://accounts.google.com/signin/v2/ without problem. The problem is that when I input my email and click "Next", the page will get stuck at loading and will not proceed to password input page.

It doesn't matter what email I input, or whether or not it is an valid email. The page gets stuck when it starts loading.

What I tried to solve this:

  • Clear all website data and history.
  • Clear all cookies.
  • Use private mode.
  • Reset all network settings.
  • Reset all settings.
  • Erase all content and settings.
  • Add Google account with other Google apps which pops up a Safari instance.
  • Add Google account with Mail, Contacts, and Calendar in Settings.

None of the above works.

What works:

  • Use Google Chrome browser.
  • Use Microsoft Edge browser.

I do not have a Mac to debug the problem using Web Inspector.

I have searched the web for similar issues, but none of the results match my case as the other results are either unable to load the page at all or unable to sign in properly. What's different about my current problem is that I cannot even get past the email input screen.

Please help. Thank you.

Hi all,

I figured out how to correct the issue on my iPhone 11 - I hope this is a universal fix for all iOS devices!

I’ve attached images and video of how I fixed this on my iPhone, along with written steps below:

iPhone -

Go to Settings/Safari/Advanced/Experimental Features/requestIdleCallback (it’s at the bottom of the experimental features list).

Uncheck (move the button from green to gray or ‘off’) ‘requestIdleCallback’, power down and then power on your device/iPhone and you should be good to go.

Launch Safari and try to login to Google.

If you still have issues -

Log out of your accounts in Mail or Accounts

Shut down and restart and triple check to make sure ‘requestIdleCallback’ didn’t turn itself back on. Also if you have multiple devices on the same Apple account, make sure they don’t have requestIdleCallback turned on. iCloud accounts sync almost everything so it’s good to make sure all devices are given the same instructions.

Open Safari and login to Google. If it works go ahead and login to your accounts again.

If you’re still having difficulties:

Reset iOS device

Clear Safari cookies

Make sure all your apps are fully closed

If you own a Mac or different Apple device, try to login with that device. This may help narrow down the issue.

If it doesn’t work let me/us know.

Could you and others still experiencing this issue describe them steps you’re taking to correct it?

i.e.: switching things in Settings, restarting your device, deleting apps, logging out of Google across-the-board, clearing cookies and Web data in Safari, updating iOS, are you running a beta?, or just share the steps you’re taking so we can help?

This isn’t meant to embarrass you. I know how that can feel. I really want to help! I am not sure how to without more info.

Hope to hear from you soon.

i don’t think you fully understand my issue. Your response is a lot so I’m not going to answer all these questions but I have figured it out on my own. I contacted apple simply to see if they could remove all google apps from the cloud because yes it does have a lot to do with my issue. None of your suggestions helps me as I mentioned as well in a previous post. I did try your method but mine was already turned off. I don’t even use Gmail which I didn’t mention was the problem I’m having. I know it’s the cloud because the apps are being downloaded from it every time and after taking with apple I have to create a new Apple ID to get rid of all google based apps which I do not want to do. Thanks but you don’t fully understand my issue I guess and your solution does not work. Believe me I’ve done a lot and I’m very tech savvy so at this point I’m telling Apple what to do.

Like deleting all the open apps, logging out of my emails, turnin on and off the ‘requestidlecallback’ clearing all the history and cookies , turning off my phone multiple times. Nothing has help me log back in. I’m just constantly stuck on the page where it lets me input my email but not leading me to the next window . I’m just stuck at the next button which is really frustrating. I can log into my emails on my pc but my phone is no good. I run a web site with links to google docs. Users who try to access these docs are ask to authenticate themself with a gmail account. The google docs are set for all viewers to read. In windows, accessing these Google docs doe not require any authentication. The users on Iphone and Ipads seem to have this authentication requirement. I have over 300 users and I can authorize each as a viewer, but I don't see why this is required. I am receiving request like the following

userx is requesting access to a file via an old link, which is no

longer valid due to a security update. Share the file with this person

directly, or copy and send the new link in sharing settings

Anybody have any clues on how to fix this problem

I recently allowed my phone to update to iOS 15.0, and this error has plagued my life now for a few weeks … the only time google works or allows me to sign in, is within another browser (e.g. chrome, foxfire, edge, opera etc …) and all I have to say to that is I purchase apple products for a reason. I shouldn’t have to role play Ash and catch ‘em’ all. What’s going on?

Update: You beautiful creature, you … thanks for the fix! Worked like a charm!

I recently bought the new iPad Mini 6 after being a mostly Android user, hoping to have a wonderful experience with this new device, and being done with the previous incompatibility issues. But I've been extremely frustrated, and wasted a lot of time I don't think I should have, to attempt to get to my Google Docs, Calendar, drive, YouTube, etc. I've followed all the instructions listed here, and I still can't get it to work. This new iPad is quickly becoming a useless device for me. 😬
