I have a Lexmark X8350. Has anyone tried to make it work on a MAC? I downloaded the Lexmark generic driver but it does not work. Nothing makes it to the printer queue.
How did you get it to work?
MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Hi,
The X8350 is not mentioned as a supported printer in the following article (the Macintosh universal driver appears to be for PostScript printers).
According to https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/information-printers-lexmark, the X8350 uses a proprietary data stream (GDI).
If nothing else works, you may want to investigate whether Windows (perhaps an earlier version) could be used for printing via a virtual machine on your MacBook Pro.

There is one other possibility. The link below has a lot of drivers for older printers which are no longer supported by the printer vendors. They are created by volunteers who help each other. Check it out and see if one works for you.
I'm afraid you will need to investigate each one of those devices since not all of them will support all printers.
The only dedicated AirPrint print server I have personal experience with is similar to the xPrintServer Office. The Lantronix print server I used has been discontinued for reasons I don't understand. It was good.
I checked the list of compatible printers for the xPrintServer Office and the Lexmark X8350 does not appear. That does not mean it will not work, but you will need to perform your own research.
It might, but I was under the impression you already tried their "generic" driver and it did not work.
I have no way to determine if their "universal" driver is any different. All you can do is try it.
Hello Père,
Yes, it is probably a good idea. When/if looking for a replacement, try to find a model that supports the driverless AirPrint technology. Then that printer would work under macOS Catalina 10.15, at least at a basic level. Software from the printer manufacturer may add functionality.
Thanks for telling me about the AirPrint solution. How can I find out more about it and what Lexmark devices it can accommodate. My printer is USB connected.
I use a MAC BOOK Pro. Do you think the Universal Driver for Lexmark will work on my X8350 printer
Jan and John, Thank you. I am going to either sell it or give it to a relative with Windows.
Thank you. I bought a used HP810 which is working very well. I appreciate your assistance.
Thank you. I bought a used HP8610 which is working very well. I appreciate your suggestions!
If Lexmark no longer supports that printer you may be able to use an AirPrint print server: About AirPrint - Apple Support.
