Charge cable MacBook too hot

I am trying to use my laptop to do University work which means it needs to be charging whilst I use it as I have to use it for long periods of time but within 10 minutes of the charger being plugged in, the part of the cable that attaches to the laptop gets incredibly hot that I can't actually hold the charger for too long, and I am wanting to find a way around this to be able to use my laptop whilst charging without also over-heating it or damaging the charger?

do you have the 3 prong chord plugged in as well?

that chord gives a better power source.

i have noticed that sometime a public outlet is not putting out the power like my house does.

those power strips we have at home will work better than a public plug.

I just have the normal charger that you get with the Mac, that connects the laptop to the socket but I’ve got it in a four way socket so perhaps having it plugged into the extension lead could be what makes it so hot but it only seems to get that hot when I use it at the same time it’s charging. I’ve had this laptop a few years with no problems and I’m worried if it gets too hot that it may damage laptop or charger so I try not to charge it too long but when doing Uni work I need it so hoping to be able to find a solution to keep it plugged in 😊 thank you

the only thing that makes the power block hot is extra electricity (wattage and amps).

is your adaptor (power charging system) made by apple?

if so there is resistors and electronics built into that brick that converts the proper electricity wattage for your MacBook.

i have 2 adaptor i purchased from amazon years ago that work fine when plugged into a 3 prong chord,

when that adaptor is plugged int with that chord my mouse is erratic.

your MacBook air should be fine unless there is extra heat from the mag-safe power connector.

Yeah it’s the genuine one I received from apple upon purchasing the product so I assume the extra heat is just where I’m trying to use it whilst charging so it’s trying to charge as well as running which makes it hot, so it’s good to know that it seems to be safe to continue using this way 😊 thank you

they should not heat up though,

i would use anther adaptor from a friend, apple store etc to make sure.

who knows maybe that is not working properly or could have fallen or shored something out.

just make sure your power source is safe by checking

it's your beloved MacBook that is your tool to compute data and all.

make sure that is safe.

I had to replace 3 genuine adaptors since 2010 and those amazon ones seemed better.

Oh okay I’ll check that out thank you. The chargers are worth like £70 on apple or something or they were when I last checked so don’t really want to be having to replace it especially as the genuine should be better than non-genuine
