How do I stop Siri dicatation from abbreviating words?

I love using dictation in my language app (Duolingo) but I am often frustrated when the words I speak or converted to abbreviations, or short hand style.

For example if I say "from eight to five" Siri changes it to "8-5". that is absolutely not what I want. I want what I say to be spelled out.

Another example; I said "department store" but instead got "Dept store," which does not work for me!

I correct these errors, hoping the algorithms will learn, but so far there has been no change.

Thanks! I did a test and you're right. Its the Duolingo app somehow causing the abbreviations.
