Inexplicable iPhone UI feature

Every once in a while when I pick up my iPhone I end up making a gesture that results in the following behaviour (see screenshot). This doesn't seem useful or add any value. Am I missing something? Can I populate this with useful features? If not, can I disable it?

iPhone SE, iOS 14

That is normal. It is called reach ability so that it is easier to use a phone with one hand. See here: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/touch-iph77bcdd132/14.0/ios/14.0#iph145eba8e9
