FIXED!!!! So Apple went thru the Logs that I uploaded last week and a Senior Tech last night went thru them and found a T-Mobile-specific fix: TURN OFF WIFI CALLING. They shouldn’t affect each other but they do and the temporary work-around is to switch off WiFi Calling and I am now getting all my Group Messages. Apple will issue a patch in a future iOS release. So here’s hoping it works for you!!

I purchased a new iPhone in February 2021. Immediately I was unable to send group text messages or receive them. The issue has been resolved. I have 12pro max. My carrier is Verizon. I don’t know if the issue is the same for other carriers. But after many hours with tech support the issue was actually very simple. Upon purchase of my phone a block had been placed on this functionality. I don’t know why. But I suggest downloading an app called tech coach. This will open a chat with support. Simply ask them to check this issue to see if a block was placed on your phone. They were very helpful. Good luck.

I downloaded the tech coach app. I believe they must be specific to Verizon. The first tech was very nice and took me through multiple steps which did not work. This included wiping my phone using iCloud backup to reinstall. This took some time so the next day when I called back I spoke with someone else and she very quickly identified the block on my phone. She didn’t know why it was there but she removed it from her end and I’ve had no more issues. I dint know if the block come programmed on the phone or if the carrier placed it but Verizon was able to remove it from their end very easily. Tech coach cost me nothing

I had this problem starting this morning with my iPhone 12. Was part of an active group text with 11 people total. We have every major carrier (Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, etc.) in the group. But we also have one Android user as well. I tested this by sending everyone a test message individually. Those with iPhones got it as an iMessage, the Android user got it as a text message. The bug is random as my girlfriend has an iPhone12 and can still participate in the group message without issue.

I started a new group message without the Android user in the chat and everything is working as before without issues. It is a bug between iPhone 12s and Androids. Not an issue with carriers.

I spent three hours on the phone this week with Verizon. They said iPhone had admitted there was an issue but in the meantime, they tried several things to fix the problem. They reactivated my phone three different times. I can now receive group texts when one includes an android. I am still occasionally having to turn my wifi off and then back on to send a text but on the most part, it is working. Certainly better than not getting any texts.

Answer: So I tried to do the Wi-Fi calling setting; it was already turned off for mine.

what I did was I shut off the phone waited five seconds took out the chip (I have a Sprint phone and I have an iPhone Pro Max)

Then I put the chip back in and then it worked all of a sudden.

i’m wondering if it may be from switching from AT&T to Sprint or T-Mobile because that’s what happen with me is I just came from AT&T and changed it to Sprint T-Mobile so if you are switching carriers maybe it’s just a chip malfunction so try that. Hopefully it helps please like if it helps.

Hello Khopfner88,

Congrats on the new iPhone 12! We're happy to help you with your missing messages. Let's look into what could be going on, and what can be done to fix it. Do you use iMessage on another Apple device using the same Apple ID and password? Do you have your messages history set to save? Go to Settings > Messages > Keep Messages, and check the time duration your messages save. We also want to check if your messages are saving to iCloud. Go to Settings > tap your name > iCloud, and confirm if Messages are turned on in iCloud. Get back to us with what you find, and we can go from there.

Have a great day!

My three daughters received iPhone 12s for Christmas switching to a T-Mobile carrier. We have the same issue. We do not see their responses or reactions in the body of the group text and their text messages in the group text come all singularly instead of in the flow of the conversation. It is extremely annoying and it is impossible to easily follow who’s saying what in what order. I believe there is one android user in the group text and several carriers including Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. This has never been a problem until two things changed. The addition of iPhone 12s and the change to T-Mobile. Hard to sort out what the issue is but it sounds like most people are concluding that it is the Apple 12 We have tried all the fixes that were suggested in this thread and none of them have worked. Need Apple to hurry it up and create a fix. Very frustrating and impacting many in the “Apple community”
