Acrobat Reader DC has froze running package scripts

I upgraded to Catalina. Today, I downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader DC after the "update needed" windows appeared on my monitor. I went to the Adobe website and downloaded Adobe AcroRdrDC_2001220048_MUI. I left the computer to download while I did something else, and when I came back the progress window appeared to be frozen. The progress window wouldn't respond. I saw no progress in the download. This is now a couple hours after I started the process. I thought I should try turning off the computer, which tends to resolve other problems I've had with Catalina, but I got a progress window saying "your computer can't be shut down now, because software is being installed. AcroRdrDC_2001220048_MUI is being installed. Interrupting the install may damage your computer. You can shut down when the install is complete." The progress bar shows about 2/3 of the task of "running package scripts" is done. I went to bed to let it work overnight--we are now about 6 hours into this install--and this morning there's been absolutely no progress. It seems I can use the rest of my computer (I opened Chrome to contact this community) but I won't be able to shut down or use Adobe Reader... Can anyone help?

Hi there, DURQUI20,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We understand that your Mac hasn't finished installing Adobe Acrobat. If you're still experiencing the same behavior, we'd recommend that you force quit the installer and attempt to install again. This article will guide you: How to force an app to quit on your Mac

If you're unable to force quit the installer, let's go ahead and restart your Mac by holding the power button for about 5 seconds. Press the power button again to turn the Mac back on. It will perform a disk check during startup, because it was forced to power off, so it might take a bit longer to finish starting up.

Let us know if this helps.

Cheers!
