iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

Well, after contacting both Vodafone (my upgrade provider) and Apple, the response for both was no replacement.. Apple support encouraged me to write up a proper negative feedback, which i did and neither of them offered any care advice.

After a bit of research I bought a screen protector by Mous Uk, what they call hybrid glass, and Im very happy wt it. It comes wt an applicator and instructions and I cannot notice the scratches underneath it now, also the touch response is the same as not using any protector. I just wish I knew beforehand about this screen flaw in the new models as I would have waited and installed this even before i turned on the phone for the first time. I never had that with previous models, my last Iphone XS was used wt no screen protector for two years and nothing like this happened.

Apple should definitely review and improve this glass screen, this is not good enough for a device this expensive. #unimpressed

The gentlemen arguing that we are all just idiots who should’ve immediately applied a screen protector are missing the point. CLEARLY there is a difference in the glass susceptibility of the 12 compared to earlier versions. I never used a screen protector, and have done far worse to my phone screen and never a scratch. There’s a stark contrast between the 12 and the earlier versions, and that is at minimum a disappointment - at most a sneaky rip off on Apple’s part.

I've also had my iPhone 12 pro for only a few days. Last night I noticed a scratch at the top and have no idea how it could have gotten there, I have been extremely careful with it. The scratch is deep enough to feel with a fingernail. My previous phone was an iPhone 8, never had a screen protector, never... only an Otterbox case. The iPhone 8 was used for over 2 years, it has not one single scratch on the face, not even a scuff. This is very disappointing that this new iPhone is so easy to scratch. Based on my previous experience, I didn't think I was going to need a screen protector.

This one is maddening because they’re marketing this screen as though it’s the toughest they’ve ever made. I based my decisions on that considering this is the 9th iPhone I’ve owned and never had any other smartphone in my life. That’s great they don’t shatter as easy, but this trade off is likely to affect a LOT of people given how easy this was to scratch in TWO WEEKS of use between home and office. We are talking noticeable scratched that would not even happen to a screen protector. I’m telling you it is SOFT.

It is.

Your complaint about the screen protector is exactly the issue; screen protectors are very hard and difficult to scratch but shatter very easily.

Those of us who have been answering user questions here for years have seen questions about replacing shattered screens go from a near daily occurrence to almost zero with the iPhone 11 and 12 families.

THEN INCLUDE ONE. THIS is what we are talking about. The phone should be ready to use out of the box. Why are you letting them off the hook on this? Why is it a decision between one or the other? I'm sorry, but there is no way an "easily shattered screen from a simply call" would be more than an anomaly compared to what this is doing. Why switch from the 11 Pro materials if they were working?

Dang, looks like you'd prefer iPhone 11 Pro over the newer iPhone 12? Go buy it then. Whatever makes you happy.

Somebody out there gonna scratch their phone every year, and they gonna always create a new thread for every single iPhone. Only way to stop this is to make a 100% scratch proof glass, which is not possible in our universe or dimension lmao.

Thank you for your very articulate comments. I agree completely. These phones should be strong enough to with stand every day use for the purpose of which they are intended. I have had an iPhone since 2010 and have not once dropped it and broken a screen. I have never replaced a screen. And now with very light gentle use after 3 days without a screen protector (I did order one the day I bought my phone but it took 3 days to arrive) there are significant scratches on the naked screen.

So we are choosing to reward those few people who drop their phones but now the vast majority who take care and use the phones normally will have to replace screens for scratches instead? At $429.00 a screen? After spending $1500.00 on a phone that can't be taken out of the box and used with out scratching the screen? I guess Apple will just increase their profits by becoming replacement screen sellers.

A warning would have been nice. Right on the front of the white plastic sheet that you pull off the phone "Do not remove this protective cover unless it is to apply a screen protector". My toaster comes wit a warning not to use it in the bathtub...come on Apple ...WTF?

I love bad analogies! I'm quite sure your toaster didn't have any printed warning to NOT use your toaster in the bathtub. Appliance manufacturers believe people are generally smart enough to know electricity and water are a recipe for electrocution. Just like most people who buy phones made of glass are smart enough to know if they don't want their very expensive screen to become scratched, they should protect it.

I did see a sad article last night however. Some lady was taking a bath and using her phone while it was plugged into charge. Sadly, she dropped the phone in the bath water plugged in, was electrocuted and died. Very sad. Very avoidable too.

Oh and your comment "come on Apple?" This is a user to user only forum. Apple isn't here reading any of these posts.

I have had mine less than a week. I count about 8 scratches already. I passed down all of my previous iPhones to my kids. None have ever had a scratch. My iPhone 11 perfect. I am so disappointed. I was hoping to take my phone in the water for some pictures but now I’m not so sure. I haven’t dropped it or anything. Just been in my pocket and a pocket in the car. I would rather go back to my iPhone 11. Don’t buy a 12!!!

In glass these days you have two choices. Glass which is harder to scratch but far easier to shatter. OR, glass which is harder to shatter, but easier to scratch.

Apple along with ALL the other premium cell phone manufacturers went to harder to shatter, but easier to scratch.

Apple can't defy the laws of glass physics. But if you think you can create glass which is harder to shatter AND scratch at the same time, you will become richer than your wildest dreams.

In the meantime, since you likely can't do that, invest a few dollars in a screen protector to protect the very expensive phone you own, is the best option available to you.
