iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

Well, after contacting both Vodafone (my upgrade provider) and Apple, the response for both was no replacement.. Apple support encouraged me to write up a proper negative feedback, which i did and neither of them offered any care advice.

After a bit of research I bought a screen protector by Mous Uk, what they call hybrid glass, and Im very happy wt it. It comes wt an applicator and instructions and I cannot notice the scratches underneath it now, also the touch response is the same as not using any protector. I just wish I knew beforehand about this screen flaw in the new models as I would have waited and installed this even before i turned on the phone for the first time. I never had that with previous models, my last Iphone XS was used wt no screen protector for two years and nothing like this happened.

Apple should definitely review and improve this glass screen, this is not good enough for a device this expensive. #unimpressed

I have taken good care of my phone, have the mag safe case so that the screen nor camera lenses will touch flat directly on a surface, however there are scratches all over my screen. I have put it in a pocket all by itself, no key, nothing else that could harm except maybe some pocket dirt. If it is this scratched after less than a month, then how will it look in a couple of years. FYI, I had my iphone 6S for 5 years. I only had one scratch on the screen because I put it in my coat pocket with my bike keys. This is crazy disappointing!

Everyone should take note, pocket "dirt" WILL scratch your screen. Be proactive and install a screen protector BEFORE doing anything else with your phone.

You should also look at William's post back on page 10 where he links to complaints for nearly every new iPhone release that the screen is too easy to scratch. This is not a new phenomena.

Obviously, you haven't been around much. There is no issue with the iPhone 12 screen. Glass scratches. iPhone 11 screen scrathed. Xs, X, and so on and so on.

Read these articles to learn why glass which is harder to break is easier to scratch --> The Verge

And this about iPhone 11, but is still applicable to the 12 --> Why is my iPhone 11 getting scratches?

If you want to avoid scratches, put a screen protector on your phone. Apple can't defy the physics of glass. You either get a phone which doesn't shatter when dropped or you get a phone which is harder to scratch. You cannot have both. And most people will admit that spending just a few dollars to put a screen protector on your phone is far better than spending Hundreds of Dollars replacing your shattered iPhone screen.

Apple is not going to admit anything or replace anything. It's up to you the owner of the phone to protect your investment.

Are you serious? The logic is the new glass is harder to break. The logic isn't the new glass is harder to scratch. No one has been able to create glass which is harder to break AND harder to scratch.

The phones you are referring to were indeed harder to scratch. But they shattered in drops so easily that people were complaining in droves when they found out how much money it was going to cost to replace the screen on their phone.

There's the logic. If you are unable to understand the logic, I can't help you.

If you'll do a search (or refer back to William's post on page 10), you will see complaints for every new iphone about the screen getting scratched. With all those complaints, consumers continued to buy iPhone. Heck, you did. I don't see it ever affected sales.

Apple admitted/fixed nothing then, what makes you think they will now?

Yes, I was sure if Apple made test for droping iPhone to the floor and the screen didnt broke or had any consequence of the fall, also it must not have scratches with very careful uses.

Its not a problem to invest on protection sreen, but now I ask my self. If I spend 1.400€ for phone, I dont like to have protectin screen on, becouse they are uglly and not aesthetically. And if I need protection screen, why would Apple invest for so good ceramic glass that is 4x more better. This is so not logically. Do you agree?

I think Apple should do something with that otherwise loyal costumer will slovely go to another brand.

Any luck in returning the phone. I bought the phone 2 weeks back and unfortunately I notice a small scratch on the screen. I m still under return window. But I didn’t buy Apple care, Will they accept the return??

It’s hard to say.

Officially, they will not accept a return with obvious cosmetic damage, but the person you deal with may be willing to make an exception.

It certainly doesn’t hurt to try.

If you want to take the time to read through this thread, it's actually been explained many times why. Since you didn't, I'll give you a short answer.

Apple and the other manufacturers partnered with Corning to create glass which is much less likely to shatter in a fall. But to make glass less likely to shatter means the glass is easier to scratch than phones of a few years ago. You can't have it both ways.

People were constantly coming here and complaining of the high cost of replacing the shattered screen to the tune of $hundreds of dollars. A simple and inexpensive screen protector, something which Apple has sold and installs in their stores for many generations of iPhone is a great way to avoid having scratches.

The Verge

Why is my iPhone 11 getting scratches?

Above are two links you can read. Both are applicable and of note is the Verge article is from 2018, so screen scratches are by no means new in any way.

So why do Apple boast of the new duel ion-exchange process used on the front glass like they do on the back to make the 12 scratch resistant? This apparently protects against scratches, nicks and wear and tear. I posted a photo of that statement on this thread but it was removed!

The new glass improves scratch resistance… compared to the iPhone 11.

Why do you and William continue to try and argue with people. The question is at the top of the thread. People are just answering that question. What do we have to do wear white gloves and remove all jewellery before use.

Because people keep stating that there is a defect here… but there is not.

Apple should provide a warning that an screen protector must be purchased if you want your screen scratch free.

No, it all depends upon how you use your phone.

Unlike Samsung, who apply a protector at the factory, Apple would prefer to keep the cost down and allows you to purchase and apply one if you feel it important.

Or would you prefer they raise the price $50 and apply a protector at the factory?
