iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

I had my IPhone X for over two years, and for the majority of that time I didn’t have a case or a screen protector. After a couple of years I definitely had a couple of scratches, but nothing major; it was so impressive! I got my iPhone 12 on release day and it hasn’t had any more than normal wear and tear that my X would go through. No drops, no cohabitation in pockets with keys, nothing like that - but I already have several significant scratches; easily as bad as anything on my 2+ year old X. I’m definitely disappointed; I’ve ordered a screen protector, and I’ll probably be ordering a case as well, but certainly the difference in performance between the X and the 12 seems pretty stark to me.

Building one into the phone means having a glass screen protector which sits in line with the frame; not one that protrudes out which you feel each time you swipe up. If it scratches or breaks, I’m one who’s happy to pay $50 for a new one, but not hundreds of dollars for a new screen.

The reality is, plenty of people have complained about scratched screens on their new iPhone 12 without dropping their phones. Go tell your bosses to make screens that don’t scratch this easily. Maybe be awesome and use sapphire crystals instead of so called ‘strong glass’. I know you’re only doing your job, but don’t try and hide this facts from people; screens scratch too easily. This is not covered by your Apple Care Plans either.

Well, after contacting both Vodafone (my upgrade provider) and Apple, the response for both was no replacement.. Apple support encouraged me to write up a proper negative feedback, which i did and neither of them offered any care advice.

After a bit of research I bought a screen protector by Mous Uk, what they call hybrid glass, and Im very happy wt it. It comes wt an applicator and instructions and I cannot notice the scratches underneath it now, also the touch response is the same as not using any protector. I just wish I knew beforehand about this screen flaw in the new models as I would have waited and installed this even before i turned on the phone for the first time. I never had that with previous models, my last Iphone XS was used wt no screen protector for two years and nothing like this happened.

Apple should definitely review and improve this glass screen, this is not good enough for a device this expensive. #unimpressed

Have you read the guy’s post up top, selling the benefits of the screen protector, naming it specifically and what it’s benefits are? Come on man. If I sold screen protectors I’d be trolling these chat threads too; you could make a fortune, then afford to buy a new iPhone 12 Pro every time you scratch it by removing it out of your pocket that had some lint in it.

Look it’s an awesome phone, I like it, but the screens man, weakness against scratches.

As I said, you have two choices:

1) Buy and install a screen protector

2) Apple could raise the price to include one from the factory

Choice #1 allows you to choose whichever you would like; choice #2 costs you more and you may not like what they come up with.

In many ways complaints about never damaging a screen in the past is like saying you’ve never had an auto accident, so why have auto insurance?

No one here sells screen protectors. I don't. William doesn't. We're just smart enough to understand the new glass formula Apple and Corning created makes the screens less likely to shatter if dropped, but has NOTHING to do with preventing scratches. It just makes sense if you spend $1K on a device you spend a few dollars more to put something on the screen to protect it. If you don't and you get scratches, you can only blame yourself. Which is fine if scratches are acceptable to you. I am OCD and can't stand scratches. So my iPhone get's a screen protector installed before the phone is even turned on. I wish I did sell them. I'd be a lot richer for sure.

Big tech companies never higher reps to scan then respond to negative messages/reviews. Can you imagine if all the scratch magnets iPhone screen post were left undisputed? How will Apple explain the drop in profits to the shareholders?

Fix the issue, don’t argue it. Remember years ago when iPhone 4 couldn’t be held without a cover due to reception loss? Apple gave users free iPhone covers.

Years later people will be saying, ‘remember the time when you couldn’t put your iPhone 12 in your pocket because the lint would scratch it’?

This article is helpful actually, thks.. As I mentioned above, I just wish I knew this beforehand as i would have the screen protector ready when the phone arrived. This is a type of care i never had to have before, even wt my iphone xs.. never dropped it, cannot comment on crack resistance as i never had that issue. But clearly even the manufacturer acknowledges the issue since they state that a better screen has been developed for their wearables, watches etc, snd so far they cannot scale it. So as they dont provide s screen protector themselves, at least it should come wt a warning, thats what I think

I'd prefer Apple NOT "build in" a screen protector. I've used them for years and they do break; they are meant to be sacrificed to protect the glass below.

When they have broken in the past, it was simple (and cheap) to install a replacement. If it is built into the phone, that means a 160 mile round trip for me and whatever Apple chooses to charge for the repair.

I used a Spigen this time a round. It comes with an installation device/guide that made installation a snap; almost idiot proof.

I'm with you on this. I prefer to decide which screen protector is best for my needs. The last few years, I've let Apple put on the Belkin Screen protectors on our phones, with the Magic Belkin Installation machine, which makes the installation perfect and comes with a lifetime replacement guarantee.

We got to use that warranty this year when my partner dropped his iPhone 11 on the pavement. The screen protector shattered. The phone was completely unharmed. Best $30 investment ever as far as I'm concerned. And the screen protector was replaced at no cost to us.
