Where is Optimize Storage setting for iCloud Drive in iOS 14?

Hi there,

I really want to be able to store the contents of iCloud Drive on my iPhone at all times, so I have access to all my files when offline.

Didn't there used to be an Optimise Storage option for iCloud Drive prior to iOS 14, that could be switched off?

I've searched everywhere for it, it seems to have been removed.

Any insight appreciated, Many thanks in advance.

That setting is in iCloud Photos. Settings>Your Name>iCloud>Apps using iCloud>iCloud Photos>On and then Optimize (Device)Storage>On.
Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

If you want access to all of your iCloud files and you have the space for them on your device, just download them from the cloud.

Yes, but doesn't it automatically remove any files that haven't been recently opened?

Ah, ok!

I'm not entirely convinced the iPhone will permanently store iCloud files that have been specifically downloaded by the user, but not 'recently accessed'.

I'll test it:

I've downloaded a Keynote presentation that I have no reason to ever open. I guess I'll check in a few weeks, a month, to see if it's still present on the iPhone (in other words, I don't have to re-download it from iCloud).

Thanks for your thoughts @Demo

It should be there. I can’t think of any reason, other than software glitch, why it won’t be there. You’re welcome and good luck.

I know - it should be there, but I've searched high and low, and searched google - weird, any reference to iOS iCloud Drive optimise storage is gone. Screenshots of it from iOS 13 remain, but no sign of it.

Can anyone confirm this feature has been removed, or otherwise, if it remains, where is it located in Settings? Is it just me / a software glitch?
