Trackpad all of a sudden over sensitive.

A few days ago I turned on my macbook pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) and when I touch the pad (without lifting off) in order to move the cursor around, it has started acting as if i have tapped the pad in order to select something. It only does this with the initial touch not continually. I have turned off 'tap with one finger' so instead of just touching the trackpad in order to move/ select the cursor I have to actively press down to select things but it is still behaving oddly. it only seems to do this if the cursor is idle for 10 seconds or so and I have also fully updated my macbook (since the issue came up). Wondering if this sounds like a software or hardware issue. Any ideas are welcome.

Hi, Sam-S182.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. We’re glad you decided to reach out about the issue you’re experiencing after your cursor has been idle for a few minutes. It sounds like you’ve found a reasonable workaround by disabling the “Tap to click” option in System Preferences.

Try resetting the SMC on your MacBook to see if it’s possibly a sleep issue.

Resetting the NVRAM may also help.

It sounds like you may also benefit from an Accessibility setting to wake the cursor by just quickly brushing your finger on the trackpad to wake the cursor.
