Mail swipe actions for Gmail vs Outlook

I have Gmail and Outlook accounts synced to the Mail app. I noticed right away there’s no apparent way to swipe and delete in my Gmail box. However, when I loaded an Outlook account there is a trash icon at the bottom of the screen and swipe to delete is available. Compatibility issues with Gmail? Can this be fixed? It’s incredibly annoying, so much so that I may discontinue using Mail and go back to the separate Gmail and Outlook apps.

iPhone 6s, iOS 14

Howdy lisaranae88!

It sounds like you are are trying to delete emails in the Mail app for your Gmail account, like how you delete them on your Outlook account. We can help you with this.

If you are only seeing Archive instead of trash, your mailbox settings need to be changed. You can find steps to do so by looking here under "Edit mailbox settings ": How to delete emails on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

We hope this helps.
