Thanks, Jeff. My MacOS is Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2).
The issue just suddenly appeared without any liquid splashing or setting change, and resetting SMC and NVRAM didn't seem to solve the problem.
Occasionally, it could revert to a normal screen without black lines maybe after dozens of attempts to open the lid extremely carefully, but once the screen was spun a little bit, it would relapse into a black-lined screen.
I saw some posts said that there's a design problem with the flex gate, where a cable connected to the screen was too short that is likely to break after years of closing and opening of the lid.
I highly suspect it's the same issue with the flex cable as said in those posts. However, my apple care will expire on 10th, Nov, 2020, and I am not able to go to any reachable apple shop to check and repair before that date due to the coronavirus pandemic.
So,
- Is there any way that I can repair the screen after I am able to go back to my country and get my repair fee covered by the apple care? Because the black-line issue appeared within the expiry date of apple care. (My MacBook Pro 2017 is well protected without any liquid damage)
- Will apple have a repair plan for this issue?
Best Regards.
