iPad 'Cannot verify server identity' error

How do I fix this extremely annoying error message? Sending and receiving mail does not seem to be affected, but starting yesterday for no reason this message keepspopping up. I’ve rebooted to no avail.

As ridiculous as this sounds, the only real fix I have found to work is to delete the offending email account from your iPhone and the add it back. That seems to clear it.

You need your username and password to add your account, so be sure you have it before you delete it!

When you are adding the account, there will be a list of accounts, including Gmail, AOL and Outlook.

Even if your email account is an @live.com email address, instead of @outlook.com, choose Outlook.com.

After 30 minutes the message had not shown up again.

If I am correct, the account settings are changed from an imap to pop3. It doesn't matter to me HOW I get my emails, as long as I get them securely!

Good luck!

This worked for me (at least so far!). It’s misleading because the prompt references outlook so I thought that was my offending account. But I looked under each of my email accounts as you note above and it was my msn account. I made the change. The system changed it back. I made it again and it kept it. I then turned the phone on and off snd checked and it has kept the change and no messages so far. Hopefully that sticks! Such an annoying message. Thank you!

I am having the same issue - but I don't use Outlook (only Gmail and Google calendar), and I have never reset the date on my iPhone (it's on "set automatically"). I don't know if it matters, but I don't have access to a Wifi network during the day (my work network is quite locked down, and requires a 64-digit password!), so I mostly use LTE. I can't force the message to appear - it seems like it shows up randomly.

Has this been caused from one of the recent updates to iOS? I've only had the issue for the last month or so . . .

How do I turn it off.?

sadly, ever since the 14 ridiculous update one of my devices (my main phone) shows ... it can’t identify... email addresses, websites, everything.

I know it’s about authentication but can’t find anywhere to resolve it.

it does it several hours a day. When it’s doing it, it’s every second or 2, rotating round and round. And stops all other action.

I can’t even figure out a pattern. I have tried apple support- no longer taking calls and could only chat with people that had zero idea how to fix it.

I’m sure it’s this phone because my other phone & devices don’t do it.

if anyone can help I would be greatfull.

Finally on page 13 someone has the same issue as me (almost). I don't use Outlook, I use gmail on my iPhone 7+. I too have been getting the same annoying pop ups but they are saying imap.gmail.com and when hitting the detail button I get the same Nokia portal crap as the other user. I too have no clue what Nokia has to do with this nor have I ever had any Nokia product or account. This is across the board and not tied to just Microsoft mail.

This is absolutely maddening! I've been having this problem for a few months and no matter what I do it always returns. I've deleted my email accounts and re-added them several times and disabled all mail notifications, I don't know what to do. When it's happening it makes my phone unusable. I'm still on an iPhone 7 and am looking to upgrade, but I can't justify spending $1,000+ on a device that I can't use because Apple refuses to resolve this problem. Sorry for the rant, I'm just really annoyed.

A number of posts their mail server are not ' Outlook' , mine is one of them.

Obviously contacting Microsoft will not solve ALL the problems.

I deleted the mail account in Setting & recreated it as suggested by a member here, but about 2 weeks later the same error popped up again. Amazed why it was ok for a while.

This error prompt is very disruptive as I am active in Apple Mail app. Don't have this problem before ios 14. Hope that Apple Support experts can give their advice here.
