iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

I can confirm this too. Happened on day one of switching from the 8 to the 12. I am in several work-related group texts and am continually not seeing all responses. In the same groups with the same carrier and same number as before on the 8 I didn’t have these issues. Only thing changed is the 12 hardware. Both were on the same iOS release. I was in the same building relatively as well when these texts go on.

I’m having the exact same issue. Updated to iPhone 12 pro from X and missing lots of group texts where at least one of the senders in the group is using sms/Android. My wife is in the groups so it’s easy to validate. I’m on Xfinity Mobile which I believe uses Verizon’s network. It’s not an issue specific to one carrier. Seems to be an Apple issue. I’ve also recently updated to a new SIM card to support 5G per carrier recommendation but the problem persists.

I contacted Apple Support this morning and they will not help unless I check with Verizon first. I was in the middle of doing that when they started experiencing "technical difficulties" and dropped my chat. This is so frustrating and I'm very upset with Apple Support. I told them over 580 people are having the same problem and with multiple carriers but they still won't take responsibility.

I am having this same issue. I just upgraded to an iPhone 12 and now I will receive some group txts, but I am missing a LOT. It does seem to mostly happen if at least one person in the group txt is not an iPhone user. I will receive txts that make no sense because I have not received the first few txts in the string. I am planning to call Apple and Verizon today, but given the responses in this community, I am not expecting an answer.

I also upgraded to 14.2. Will see if that helps, but I’ve told my coworkers and colleagues to not be upset if I don’t reply to them - I am missing lots of texts on the 12. So they now just text me directly instead.

I am using AT&T and I have had 5G disabled on the phone since I got it because there’s no 5G near me and I prefer better battery life over a few seconds longer to download something.

Installing 14.2 right now.

Hopefully it helps although no mention of iMessages fix in the Learn More screen. Not enjoying this $1100 phone so far.

I have the same iOS version on the iPhone SE but I am not having any issues with that phone.

Stop ignoring this Apple.

So far so good on 14.2. Been getting texts from groups constantly.

Before I upgraded I deleted any group chat, including all iPhone user group chats. Then I applied upgrade. after iphone came back up I still rebooted one more time.

Thanks for the update and as you can see, there are others here that did the update to 14.2 and didn't work. 14.2 did not include any fixes for this.

Personally, I think you shouldn't have to do all this reboots, clearing previous chats, etc...

As Apple's slogan "It just works"...

Anyway, please keep an open mind and I advise that you continue to test. A good test is to txt message someone from an older Android phone (Ex: Google Pixel 1/2)..And again, it does not matter what carrier.

I hope that’s true. My group text threads are fed up with me using them as testers (my family who I see in person regularly), so I’m not sure if it’s fixed. Many say it isn’t, so I’m inclined to believe them.

Update:

I went to my Apple appointment yesterday and the tech looked through my case notes. She checked my settings and everything and found this thread to look through.

The second she saw it was cross-carrier, she said, “this sounds like an Apple software issue, but they haven’t given us a report on it yet.” She sent it up her chain of command, which I appreciated. At least now I can stop annoying Verizon about it - just have to wait until Apple investigates and fixes it.

If you can, get any Apple techs to send your cases up the chain. The more complaints/cases about this they get through them, the faster the engineers can work to fix it for everyone!

I am on Fido in Canada. I got an iPhone 12 pro and I am experiencing this issue. Messages from group conversations are arriving out of order and sometimes over 24 hours later than my partner receives them on his android phone. I’ve never had this problem before I have had an iPhone X for several years with no problem. I am running iOS 14.2.

I am having the same issue. Can anyone confirm that this is usually happening when you are connected to wifi? I just got off the phone with Verizon and she had a theory that when on wifi, there is something happening with non-iMessages that aren't coming through. I went off wifi and my group txt that was problematic earlier seemed to work just fine.... It's been intermittent for me all along, so I'm not sure if that's a real fix or not, but wanted to share.

I'm having the same issue. I receive group texts when they're all iPhones, but if there is one android phone in the group I don't get the majority of the group texts. I'm on an iPhone 12 with T-mobile. After 6 or so hours of phone calls T-mobile says it's something with apple and apple says it's something with T-mobile.

I don't think it can be a carrier issue if it is happening on all three U.S. networks: AT&T (Richr1271), Verizon (Beley & Me), T-Mobile (Jrnola),

I also find it suspicious that it is only happening on Apple Phones [12 Pro (Cardey {Original Poster}, me, and others) and XS (erica 13) .

Does anybody know if vodaphone (British & Australian carrier) users are having the same problem ?

I just had my Wifi on and noticed I wasn’t getting texts. I wonder if this has something to do with it? My solution to all of this is that I downloaded the Messages+ app for Verizon and I am just cross checking my messages. Some days I get all my texts and some days I don’t in Messages (iPhone native app). I get all of the messages through Verizon’s Messages+. It is at least a temporary solution to make sure you get all of your texts. I also powered my phone down and took my SIM card out for two minutes, put it back in and powered on. This was a level 2 Verizon tech’s suggestion and my phone flooded with messages when it powered back on. This is so frustrating, how has this not been acknowledged by Apple?

I'm having the same issue. Have the new iPhone 12Pro, just found out from someone today that my text message address is showing my iCloud email address instead of my phone number. I'm missing lots of group responses.
