iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

Since upgrading from my iPhone X to IPhone 12 Pro I’ve noticed in a group text (SMS) that I’m randomly missing texts. My husband is in the group too so I can see I’m missing multiple texts at random. Anyone else having this issue?

I’ve been having issues ever since getting my new phone. I transferred the data from iPhone X to the 12 Pro. When you switch phones apparently the phone number did not settle and needs to be “reconnected”. T-Mobile support had me:

1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Cellular (iPhone)

2. Tap Network Selection.

3. Slide the Automatic slider to the off position to start scanning for networks.

4. Select desired carrier (T-Mobile)

  1. Restart phone
  2. Settings > Messages > Turn on Send as SMS
  3. Click Sent & Receive
  4. Make sure the Number and Apple ID are listed and correct
  5. Remove the check on your phone number by tapping it. And select Remove.
  6. Now that it’s unchecked, tap to apply it again. This reconnects your phone.
  7. Done.
  8. So far so good

Update, 30 minutes after my last post, it happened again. I was missing texts in an SMS group with 7 people and a different SMS group with 9 people. I called Apple and asked to escalate the issue to a senior advisor and engineering. The senior advisor named Shakita said she has heard of the problem, but please, if you can all call Apple to escalate this issue to senior advisors and engineering too, maybe they will find a solution faster because so many of us are upset about it. I submitted files to prove the issue keeps happening. Engineering will review the files and they scheduled a call-back with me this Saturday. We will see what solutions they come up with.

Been working with senior support quite a bit. (Thank you Tim for all the hard work and troubleshooting with me)

Apple is doing their best to work on it.

Still having missed texts.

While this problem is with multiple carriers verizon has something called the message + app so I was able to validate if I was missing texts in the iphone message app. Of course if someone sends me an iMessage it would go to the iphone message app and I kept having to switch between the apps. I felt if I turned off imessage completely and used only the version app I might miss texts as well because people are trying to send imessage. (Ultimately not sure on that part).

Things I tried that I proved with screenshots did not work and have sent/discussed with support:

upgraded to version 14.2(18B92)

Turned off wifi calling

Turned off mms off and on

reboot of phone

turn off imessage

Turned off wifi completely

turn icloud message backup off and on

turned group mms off and on

None of the above fixed my issue. Even turning off wifi-calling did not fix.

I have proven each one still had missing texts. I went from an iphone 10 with no issues on version 14.1 to iphone 12 pro on 14.1 Upgraded to 14.2 and still all these issues. Have tested all of the above on version 14.2 as well.

Anyone who still thinks this is a carrier issue, please don’t bother posting, you clearly haven’t read the OP closely much less all the other reports. There are now 1446 people, on multiple carriers, indicating on this one thread alone that the have the same problem. Many, like me, have multiple phones on their account (therefore SAME carrier) but see the issue on ONLY their new iPhone 12.

I haven’t read all 44 pages so I’ll ask, is anyone experiencing this on an older model after updating iOS to 14.1 or newer?

Has anyone solved this by updating to 14.2?

The new update 14.2.1 hasn't fixed the issue for me on an iPhone 12 mini. I don't receive text messages from my partner's Pixel android phone. When I take the sim out of the iPhone and put it in an android phone I receive the text messages almost instantly. As she's the person I communicate with the most it makes the phone essentially a brick for me.

I had the issue of not getting texts in group messages. I got my new phone on Christmas. I believe I fixed the issue by following the steps a person above recommended. I deleted my number from my Google Account. Since then I have been getting pretty consistent texts from my SMS or MMS groups. I am not completely sure I am getting all of them, but I am certainly seeing more than I did before. I have no idea why this would work, but it seems to have resolved the issue. Someone gave the respondent a hard time for the response, but honestly it seems to have worked.

I solved my problem by myself, that was tricky. I couldn't receive on my iphone 12 the text messages my wife sent me from her pixel, because my previous phone was a android phone with google chat enabled.

After I switched my phone for a iphone 12, google chat was still enabled for my phone number in the google/android ecosystem. The messages my wife sent me were sent as 'google chat messages', not mms/sms messages, and obviously an iphone is not part of the google chat system.

As soon as I de-registered my phone number from Google chat, the messages my wife sent me turned to classic sms/mms messages (not google chat message anymore) and ... bingo... I saw them pop on my screen.

So in my case it was a problem due to switching from google/android to apple ecosystem.
