iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

Since upgrading from my iPhone X to IPhone 12 Pro I’ve noticed in a group text (SMS) that I’m randomly missing texts. My husband is in the group too so I can see I’m missing multiple texts at random. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes, I have been having the same issue since upgrading, however I have the iPhone 12. My phone also says I have left the conversation on every group text on my phone, which I know is not the case. I've called Apple a few times and they say its just carrier issue. There are posts on MacRumors about this same issue. I do not believe this is a carrier issue if it's happening to multiple people.

Hi Quinn,

I know there's alot of threads here to look over all of them.

But this issue has been so inconsistent. Its impossible to pinpoint the bottleneck here.

All kinds of Android phones, all kinds of carriers, but the most common denominator here is the iPhone 12/Pro.

What pains me to see is when there is a post about users who have this issue with previous iphones..That makes this issue a lot more harder to figure out. When I google this problem, there's posts from 3, 4, 5 yrs ago!! Lord!

But for now, its majority of the iPhone 12. And again, it doesn't matter the carrier, the android phones, 4G, 5G, Lte, etc....Some work, but most do not.

Sorry...

But as one person mentioned here, we as a group or team effort is to contact Apple for the most part to complain about this so that they know this is a major problem..1 or 2 calls from us is not going to cut it.

I upgraded from an 11 Pro and am on Verizon. The issue is random, so it's not possible to reproduce. The only way I'll know I didn't receive an SMS or MMS is if one eventually comes in and I have no idea what the other person is talking about because I missed the previous SMS or MMS. They'll then send me a screenshot of the thread and sure enough there are messages I never got. I'm wondering if it's related to the 5G feature, so I switched to LTE only to see if that makes a difference. I might even put my old 4G/LTE SIM card back in if it's compatible to see if that helps.

Exact same story on my wifes iPhone 12 on T-mob. Missing group texts on iOS14.1. Me and a Tmob engineer troubleshot every feasible network issue over a couple hours including swapping in a new SIM card. She is STILL missing texts. I have to think that if this is happening on iPhones across ALL the carriers it has to be a iPhone 12 hardware issue or something in the "improvements" to iMessage that they made in iOS14 broke something unintentionally. I'm having my daughter hold off on updating her iPhone SE until 14.2 to see if anything gets fixed, I don't need her having the same issue. Apple needs to take action.

So apple had me turn of group and mms. Turn off my phone. Turn it back on and turn the options back on. I tested mms. By turning off iMessage and sending my self a picture iMessage and received it back immediately. When I was having problems before I would send my self an mms picture message and not receive it back for 12 hours. So right now doing that step

from Apple corrected it temporarily. Will see if it continues. But I do believe it to be a software issue

I have also experienced the issue. I have an iPhone 12 Pro on the AT&T network. I talked to Apple Support, and they put me in touch with the next level of tech support. Apple advised they are aware of the issue and it has come up on their radar as of 11/2, however, they advised that there wasn't anything they could do since it was with SMS/MMS.

Apple referred me back to AT&T to discuss with them. I reached out to AT&T and they advised that this is an issue they are aware of and have received numerous calls about the issue. My information was escalated to that network team and said they are working to get a hand on the issue and get resolved.

Sounds like both sides are aware, but nobody seems to know where the issues lies or what is needed to correct at this time. Hopefully it get figured out sooner rather than later. I urge you to call Apple to advise of the situation so it can continue to hit their radar, and then call your carrier to also ensure it continues to get escalated and on their radar.

Ok, update:

Posted a complaint on Twitter tagging VerizonSupport and AppleSupport. Verizon reached out almost immediately. They had me turn off iMessage for a bit, send SMS messages to individuals and group chats (didn’t miss any), then turn iMessage back on. Seems to be working so far, but I’m holding my breath.

I’ll update as I discover more. Turns out, my brother’s 12 Pro has the problem too...

Folks,

Please don't rely on just a few of Android txt message retrievals.

Personally, I can get some but not from others..Again, this is random and inconsistent.

As of now, I noticed that newer model android phones I have no problems with...no matter who the carrier is.

The issues remain with older model android phones, no matter who the carrier is.

Please continue your tests as we all feel bad to bother friends and family or business contacts.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. However, the texts that I don't receive come through much later, on a different day but at the same time they were originally sent, aside from the AM/PM difference. So a friend sent an MMS (green message) at 3:17pm and I didn't receive it until 3:17am. Same thing happened again today only the lag was exactly 48 hours. I'm curious to see what the resolution to this issue is.

I'm on iPhone 12 Pro, Sprint (T-Mobile now I suppose), primarily at home using WiFi.

The issue I am having is my iMessage or SMS sent after 10/19/2019 aren’t coming through when I updated to the iPhone 12 pro. So if I messaged someone after 10/19/2019 it’s no where to be found. Although since turning on the new phone I have been able to get messages. So basically I am missing a year of messages and Apple has no idea what the issue is.
