iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

Since upgrading from my iPhone X to IPhone 12 Pro I’ve noticed in a group text (SMS) that I’m randomly missing texts. My husband is in the group too so I can see I’m missing multiple texts at random. Anyone else having this issue?

I’ve been having issues ever since getting my new phone. I transferred the data from iPhone X to the 12 Pro. When you switch phones apparently the phone number did not settle and needs to be “reconnected”. T-Mobile support had me:

1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Cellular (iPhone)

2. Tap Network Selection.

3. Slide the Automatic slider to the off position to start scanning for networks.

4. Select desired carrier (T-Mobile)

  1. Restart phone
  2. Settings > Messages > Turn on Send as SMS
  3. Click Sent & Receive
  4. Make sure the Number and Apple ID are listed and correct
  5. Remove the check on your phone number by tapping it. And select Remove.
  6. Now that it’s unchecked, tap to apply it again. This reconnects your phone.
  7. Done.
  8. So far so good

I'm having this same issue on my new iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 14.1 and my carrier is AT&T. By the way, the missing texts are also missing from my iPad and Macbook that are both supposed to synch with all of my messages. So, it seems it's not just an iPhone 12 Pro issue.

Be aware that Apple doesn't see these forums, so be sure to submit a report at the Apple Feedback site specifically for iPhones:

Thanks!

i switched back from Android to the 12. I noticed right off the bat that I wasn’t getting messages from Android. Walked through trouble shooting with T-Mobile and apple without positive results, so both referred my case to engineering departments. on a whim, I tried changing the messaging app on my wife’s phone (Android) and my work phone (Android)- this solved the problem for texts from those two phones. Both phones were using messaging apps with RCS enabled. I wonder if it’s a compatibility issue with phones with RCS enabled?

I am also missing some messages in group messaging.

So, I finally gave up and downloaded message+ . Initially, I sent a message to a friend with an android phone..not sure what phone and carrier as of yet..but it’s sending duplicate messages thru iMessage and message+. Even though I’m getting duplicate messages, getting notifications from both apps was driving me nuts so I turned off notifications from message+ and was able to continue using iMessage. Still ridiculous though and needs to be fixed especially for a thousand dollar phone!

I have been working with an Apple advisor. He said I needed to call Verizon and get a trouble ticket #. I did and now the advisor is forwarding to the engineering team and they will now contact Verizon, according to him. I did let him know the problem was across all carriers and he read through this thread, and a few other articles I sent him. Lets see what happens, I will follow up again after our next scheduled call Friday.

I upgraded from an 11 Pro and am on Verizon. The issue is random, so it's not possible to reproduce. The only way I'll know I didn't receive an SMS or MMS is if one eventually comes in and I have no idea what the other person is talking about because I missed the previous SMS or MMS. They'll then send me a screenshot of the thread and sure enough there are messages I never got. I'm wondering if it's related to the 5G feature, so I switched to LTE only to see if that makes a difference. I might even put my old 4G/LTE SIM card back in if it's compatible to see if that helps.

Exact same story on my wifes iPhone 12 on T-mob. Missing group texts on iOS14.1. Me and a Tmob engineer troubleshot every feasible network issue over a couple hours including swapping in a new SIM card. She is STILL missing texts. I have to think that if this is happening on iPhones across ALL the carriers it has to be a iPhone 12 hardware issue or something in the "improvements" to iMessage that they made in iOS14 broke something unintentionally. I'm having my daughter hold off on updating her iPhone SE until 14.2 to see if anything gets fixed, I don't need her having the same issue. Apple needs to take action.

I am having the same issue. Can anyone confirm that this is usually happening when you are connected to wifi? I just got off the phone with Verizon and she had a theory that when on wifi, there is something happening with non-iMessages that aren't coming through. I went off wifi and my group txt that was problematic earlier seemed to work just fine.... It's been intermittent for me all along, so I'm not sure if that's a real fix or not, but wanted to share.

Adding to the pile-on. T-Mobile user in Texas. Like many others, I upgraded to the 12 pro, gave my 11 pro to my wife, and am missing group texts that include users that are not on iOS. If I pull my SIM and put it into an iPhone 6S running iOS 14.1, I get every message. Put the SIM back into my 12 Pro running 14.1, and after upgrading to 14.2, I miss random texts. It doesn't matter if the person is on iOS or Android. A person can send two texts right after each other, and I might get one of them. I can login to T-Mobile DIGITS and see everything there, so I know that the other user is sending the text messages properly. If it was an iMessage issue, I would not see the messages in DIGITS. Something is happening on the phone that prevents the texts from appearing. This needs a fix from Apple and a public apology at this point.
