iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

Y’all. I FINALLY got the attention of an Apple engineer. Finally. He remotely watched my text in my device, added a diagnostic log so i can send him the exact moment it doesnt work. And all of a sudden ALL my texts wants to work again. What’s frustrating is that I bet this is going to glitch again and I’ll have to go through all the hoops I swear this is toying with us and our sanity.

I can confirm the sec I turned off Wifi on the phone all of my group messages that have Android devices on them started working! I have not tested further yet to turn wifi back on to see if they stop again but for sure this has somrhing to do with how sms is transferred over Wifi on the new iPhone 12....

So update from my previous post and to give some more background information. Due to the pandemic I have spent a great majority of time at home. At my house, I barely get one bar of LTE and when it is cloudy/rainy my signal strength is even worse. So I leave my phone on WiFi and have WiFi calling on. Before I bought my 12 Pro I would occasionally miss texts but not a lot. It was always on a thread with one other Android user. After getting my 12 Pro, I had the same issues as everyone else with missing many texts from this thread. And it has even happened on a thread with only two other people, one an Android user and the other an iPhone user. After I updated to 14.2 (I doubt this is the reason why it has started to work), I changed my cellular to LTE ONLY and it seems that I am not missing texts anymore. Well, at least not any more than before my 12 Pro. I will keep you updated to let you know how it continues to work. Today is college football and there will be a lot of texts today on my problematic thread so it will be a good test.

I have deleted all my texts and started over, no better. Sprint had me wipe phone, no good, wipe and reset network settings, PRL - nothing. Apple had me wipe phone again, and now I am on the phone with them. 6th attempt to correct.

Most the time it starts working for a day or less then just suddenly stops. annoying as heck, wifes 11 is fine as was my 6s+ prior to upgrading.

I’ve noticed groups that have android phones is where I’m having that problem. What’s weird is the texts end up coming through at like 2:30-3 am! Every night my phone just starts blowing up from texts I missed throughout the day. Definitely hope they can fix this glitch sooner than later

I've had the same problem with my iPhone 12 Pro on Verizon. With group text messages, I miss around 25% of them. In one chain today a friend sent three messages and I received the first and the third but missed the middle one. Another friend sent five messages and I missed the first two, got the second two, and missed the last one.

Same issue as all of these. Started when I got the iPhone 12pro. SMS group messages missing only a few random texts, not all of them. iMessage works normal, so it’s related to SMS group messages only. The message I notice it the most is a group with 9 other users. I’m on Verizon.

As soon as I activated my new iPhone 12 Pro I started having this issue immediately. From everything I can tell it’s random that messages in my group’s go missing. I use groups I’m my real estate business, so this is disastrous, as I don’t know when a message is missing!!!! Fix it Apple!!!!

I have been experiencing this issue too in my new iPhone 12 Pro. Took me a while to realize that I was missing texts in non-iMessage group chats, which was very confusing and frustrating. I updated from iOS 14.1 to 14.2 last night and it appears to have fixed it for now. Maybe 14.2 contains a bug fix that solves it? Time will tell...

Same, Iphone 12 on T-Mobile. I miss TONS of group texts from iphone and Android users alike. I am not missing any texts in groups where all users are Iphones. Apple support said to restart the phone.....unreal...

No, sorry, Signals is not the solution. Signal only works with other Signal users. In order to communicate with all of one’s contacts, all of the contracts would have to be using the Signal app. The real solution is for Apple to fix this so iMessage works as it is supposed to.

You are correct. The problem here is with group MMS messages being sent and received with the native iPhone Messages app. When referring to the app in my last post, I accidentally typed “iMessage“ instead of “Messages“.

I know it’s a lot to read we have what now?? 22 pgs of this topic now and growing...even though people are slightly seeing different things, the common denominator here is the iPhone...I can’t rule out the carriers, but the issue with not just MMS, but single one to one SMS txt messages from Android users that can’t be retrieved is the MAIN issue here. Android users are seeing are messages and replying, but iPhone users can not retrieve it!

They're also has been some work arounds but it’s not been 100%.

After taking some recommendations from some of you, I’ve been able to fix this on a case by case basis..My personal experience has been as such; new android phones no issue..Older android models still an issue.

The fact remains that I still believe this will have to be a collaborative effort with the carriers and Apple ASAP!!

Yup. I had one evening of the glitch not occurring and it’s come back in a BIG way afterwards. I’m getting even fewer pictures in those group texts. Ugh. Yesterday was frustrating trying to text people about the election.
