iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

Since upgrading from my iPhone X to IPhone 12 Pro I’ve noticed in a group text (SMS) that I’m randomly missing texts. My husband is in the group too so I can see I’m missing multiple texts at random. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes, I have been having the same issue since upgrading, however I have the iPhone 12. My phone also says I have left the conversation on every group text on my phone, which I know is not the case. I've called Apple a few times and they say its just carrier issue. There are posts on MacRumors about this same issue. I do not believe this is a carrier issue if it's happening to multiple people.

This isn't a iPhone 12 issue, I upgraded my iPhone 7+ to iOS 14 when it became available and started to experience missing group messages with mix of iphone and android users. I tried some troubleshooting on 9/29/20 but it didn't resolve the issue. I considered it being my SIM card and ultimately decided to wait for my new iphone 12 pro to arrive. It did and it came with a new SIM card so I thought my issue would be fixed. It is not.

I continue to miss messages when in a group of android and iphone users. It seems random on who I miss messages from and it happens throughout the day. I won't know that I've missed a message until I get a subsequent text saying "So-and-so liked "Message I didn't receive."" I've tried the suggestions to fix on this forum, to no avail. Ultimately, I texted in the groups I'm having issues with that I'm not ignoring them I'm having SMS/MMS issues. Hopefully, Apple and the carriers will resolve this issue soon.

I currently have an iPhone 12 Pro, on 14.2 and am a T-Mobile user.

I have this issue as well, and it’s becoming infuriating. A few group threads that I’m on have become a garbled, nonsensical mess on iPhone 12 Pro AND my iPad Pro.

Things I have tried, all to no avail:

-Update to 14.2 (18B92) on iPhone and iPad

-Restart of both devices

-Made sure MMS is turned on (also turned it OFF for a day and back ON)

-Tried changing “you can receive messages to and reply from” to include my email address, and mobile number, back and forth

-Turned off text forwarding to my iPad, and turned back on

-Send as SMS turned off, eventually turned back on

-Group messaging turned off, then on after

Just adding to the count: same issue. iPhone 12 Pro, Verizon, 14.2.

I have tried signing out of icloud, turning off imessage, resetting network settings, deleting the threads, turning off 5G. Nothing has worked. I have a friend with the same equipment, software and carrier as me who is getting all of the texts i'm not, thankfully he's keeping me in the loop. Since I'm having the issue and he isn't, and all of our variables are the same, makes it very difficult to know where the issue lies.

Yes, I’ve been having the same issue since last Thurs (11/5/2020). I received my iPhone 12 Pro since last Sat (10/31). I sent a group chat to friends to get together and thought two of them were ghosting me since 3 out of 5 responded. Once we got together, we discussed what’s up with the other guys since they didn’t respond and he told me “Yes, he did. Remember? He said he’s trying to social distance but will catch up with us later.” I was shocked then he showed me the group chat with his response. I never received his response. My friends are on iPhones prior to the 12.

I’ve read on iMore.com that some are claiming there’s an issue with the carrier. Doubtful! Why would I receive all other texts and not one person in a group chat? Plus, the person who’s response did not come through on the group chat texted me earlier in the day outside of the group chat. There’s clearly something wrong with the group chat function. Apple needs to fix this ASAP!

Hi yoyo..Sorry to hear that.

Not sure if you saw my update after I posted those instructions..but I still can't get txt messages with a coworker who has a Android phone (Blackberry Keyone) w/verizon, yet it resolved for others..

I'm still keeping the mindset that Apple and the carriers must work together to get ALL of this resolved asap.

This is the most unusual sporadic random issue I've ever experienced.

I will also contribute any information on any updates.

The group chat where I first noticed I didn’t get certain replies were from iPhone users. Only one of my friends in the group chat has an android phone and I received his response just fine. I don’t think it’s an issue with iOS vs Android since it’s being experienced on the iPhone 12 with every carrier. 5G makes the most sense of being the possible cause. I switched to LTE and will see if that helps.

Update:

After going back and reading through some of the posts here, I downloaded the Messages+ app per TelvisiPhone's instructions. Haven't followed all the steps yet, but just from installing that app I can now see all of the messages that I'm missing. Which makes me think it's not a carrier issue at all. I've even noticed some missing MMS messages from threads with individual android users.

My best guess is that in ios14 there is some conflict between iMessage & MMS.
