iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

Since upgrading from my iPhone X to IPhone 12 Pro I’ve noticed in a group text (SMS) that I’m randomly missing texts. My husband is in the group too so I can see I’m missing multiple texts at random. Anyone else having this issue?

I’ve been having issues ever since getting my new phone. I transferred the data from iPhone X to the 12 Pro. When you switch phones apparently the phone number did not settle and needs to be “reconnected”. T-Mobile support had me:

1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Cellular (iPhone)

2. Tap Network Selection.

3. Slide the Automatic slider to the off position to start scanning for networks.

4. Select desired carrier (T-Mobile)

  1. Restart phone
  2. Settings > Messages > Turn on Send as SMS
  3. Click Sent & Receive
  4. Make sure the Number and Apple ID are listed and correct
  5. Remove the check on your phone number by tapping it. And select Remove.
  6. Now that it’s unchecked, tap to apply it again. This reconnects your phone.
  7. Done.
  8. So far so good

I used the Facebook messager app to contact Verizon and showed them some of the messages from this thread. They claimed everything was set properly but they “refreshed settings” on their side and had me restart my phone. Seemed to work for a little while but definitely still have group messages in the Messages+ Verizon app that did not make it to the default messages app on the phone. So frustrating! At least using Messager rather than a phone call means you’re not waiting on hold.

The biggest issue here is the inconsistency. All I know for certain is the problem began when I activated my new iPhone 12 Pro last Friday. I have a control group of texters, 2 iOS phones, and 2 Android phones. The problems are inconsistent. Sometimes I don't get android messages, sometimes iOS messages. Doesn't matter if I am 5G or on wifi. This can not be a carrier issue. It must be an iPhone 12 or iOS 14.1 issue.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I'm in the same boat:

  • Got my 12 Pro on launch day (10/23)
  • Verizon
  • Came with iOS 14.1

Thankfully my bf is in a number of group chats with me. Messages were being received in group chats (mixed and iPhone) inconsistently. Apple tried twice over chat, Verizon over chat twice and in person once. SIM has been replaced, resets of phone, network settings, you name it, so many times I lost count.

A Verizon Tier 2 Tech almost fixed it, bur 2 days later, back to random missing messages. Have an Apple appointment and plan to have them check hardware anyway (it won't be that, I know), but I have Apple tech in chat saying to replace my phone if it can't be fixed.

Not sure that will fix the issue (probably not), but this is infuriating. My brother got a 12 Pro and not sure if he's having the same issues we are.

At this point, this group can use this support thread to see if any new positive outcomes have happened. But otherwise, Apple has told me that they don't even bother looking at this discussion. All troubleshooting methods have been conducted and failed with both apple and all 3 carriers. Perhaps if they get more tickets on this..eventually that will instigate the acknowledgement of the problem.

I truly believe at this point, this issue will get to Apple eventually. It will come from the youtube experts, reviewers, etc...they will voice this problem and Apple will finally do something about it..until then, we need to make a decision on whether we want to keep it or not.

For me, I got it cause my stupid car only has Apple Play and not Android Auto. And as far as not being able to receive txt messages from Android users, I'll have to call them instead of messaging...at least phone calls work...esp for Emergency scenarios.

Folks,

Please don't rely on just a few of Android txt message retrievals.

Personally, I can get some but not from others..Again, this is random and inconsistent.

As of now, I noticed that newer model android phones I have no problems with...no matter who the carrier is.

The issues remain with older model android phones, no matter who the carrier is.

Please continue your tests as we all feel bad to bother friends and family or business contacts.

I can confirm this too. Happened on day one of switching from the 8 to the 12. I am in several work-related group texts and am continually not seeing all responses. In the same groups with the same carrier and same number as before on the 8 I didn’t have these issues. Only thing changed is the 12 hardware. Both were on the same iOS release. I was in the same building relatively as well when these texts go on.

Y’all. I FINALLY got the attention of an Apple engineer. Finally. He remotely watched my text in my device, added a diagnostic log so i can send him the exact moment it doesnt work. And all of a sudden ALL my texts wants to work again. What’s frustrating is that I bet this is going to glitch again and I’ll have to go through all the hoops I swear this is toying with us and our sanity.

I have deleted all my texts and started over, no better. Sprint had me wipe phone, no good, wipe and reset network settings, PRL - nothing. Apple had me wipe phone again, and now I am on the phone with them. 6th attempt to correct.

Most the time it starts working for a day or less then just suddenly stops. annoying as heck, wifes 11 is fine as was my 6s+ prior to upgrading.

Update:

Still testing with other Android phone users...I need to be absolutely sure.

Only one person who has a Blackberry Keyone w/Verizon and NOT receiving his txt's. I do know that the newer Blackberry phones are running Android. Oh well!

But now "working" on the following Android phones:

  1. Google Pixel 2 w/verizon
  2. Samsung S9 w/AT&T
  3. Google Pixel (original) w/verizon
  4. Google Pixel 2 XL w/T-Mobile
  5. Samsung s10 w/AT&T
  6. Samsung s10 w/Verizon
