iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

Since upgrading from my iPhone X to IPhone 12 Pro I’ve noticed in a group text (SMS) that I’m randomly missing texts. My husband is in the group too so I can see I’m missing multiple texts at random. Anyone else having this issue?

I’ve been having issues ever since getting my new phone. I transferred the data from iPhone X to the 12 Pro. When you switch phones apparently the phone number did not settle and needs to be “reconnected”. T-Mobile support had me:

1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Cellular (iPhone)

2. Tap Network Selection.

3. Slide the Automatic slider to the off position to start scanning for networks.

4. Select desired carrier (T-Mobile)

  1. Restart phone
  2. Settings > Messages > Turn on Send as SMS
  3. Click Sent & Receive
  4. Make sure the Number and Apple ID are listed and correct
  5. Remove the check on your phone number by tapping it. And select Remove.
  6. Now that it’s unchecked, tap to apply it again. This reconnects your phone.
  7. Done.
  8. So far so good

Well I fixed this issue! I call ATT and had them activate my old iPhone 11 and boom all text started working correctly again with groups that include non iphone users. So I also moved my wife back to her iPhone 11 and will be returning two iPhone 12 pro's tomorrow. We use texting with clients in our business and some of there were mad as some of the text were not getting through. If you just text some with friends and you miss a few you can probably wait it out. But this was costing us clients. So now the hurry up and wait until they get this worked out.

So it is not a carrier specific issue, but looks like a iPhone 12 issue.

Possible Verizon work around... download the Verizon “messages+” app. The group texts will go through there. Obnoxious you need a separate app for group texts but at least you don’t miss out on things... I did also see something about turning off iMessages and then you can use the normal text messages app which I’m currently testing. So far so good but again obnoxious that the carrier and Apple can’t get together to figure this out, especially Verizon whose partnership they touted in their latest release

Verizon, upgraded to 12 Pro (from 8 plus). I’ve been on the phone/chat with apple several times now. They basically refuse to send the ticket higher until they exhaust their list of things to try. Unfortunately they are making me wait 24 hours with every “fix”.

The latest one? The “senior advisor” me to toggle iMessage off and back on and wait 24 hours before calling them back. I basically made him come look at this thread (as well as several other reps), trying to get him to acknowledge this issue goes beyond my phone. I've tried everything anyone has mentioned this thread and still missing texts.

Interestingly, it seems like every time I miss a series of texts in a group, it usually starts with me not getting a text from one specific person....who is also on Verizon and has an iPhone 11 pro.

Unfortunately, they just have their list of things they have to make the user do before they ship it up to engineering, and if the reps are making customers wait 24 hours before trying the next thing on their list, engineering probably hasn’t even gotten more than a small handful of reports. Which means it’s not a high priority yet.

So keep calling and making them escalate the issue. It probably helps if you try all the things on this thread first (because if you don’t, they’ll make you do them one by one and wait 24 hours between each one).

I just had my Wifi on and noticed I wasn’t getting texts. I wonder if this has something to do with it? My solution to all of this is that I downloaded the Messages+ app for Verizon and I am just cross checking my messages. Some days I get all my texts and some days I don’t in Messages (iPhone native app). I get all of the messages through Verizon’s Messages+. It is at least a temporary solution to make sure you get all of your texts. I also powered my phone down and took my SIM card out for two minutes, put it back in and powered on. This was a level 2 Verizon tech’s suggestion and my phone flooded with messages when it powered back on. This is so frustrating, how has this not been acknowledged by Apple?
