iPhone 12 not receiving group texts

Since upgrading from my iPhone X to IPhone 12 Pro I’ve noticed in a group text (SMS) that I’m randomly missing texts. My husband is in the group too so I can see I’m missing multiple texts at random. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes, I have been having the same issue since upgrading, however I have the iPhone 12. My phone also says I have left the conversation on every group text on my phone, which I know is not the case. I've called Apple a few times and they say its just carrier issue. There are posts on MacRumors about this same issue. I do not believe this is a carrier issue if it's happening to multiple people.

Well I fixed this issue! I call ATT and had them activate my old iPhone 11 and boom all text started working correctly again with groups that include non iphone users. So I also moved my wife back to her iPhone 11 and will be returning two iPhone 12 pro's tomorrow. We use texting with clients in our business and some of there were mad as some of the text were not getting through. If you just text some with friends and you miss a few you can probably wait it out. But this was costing us clients. So now the hurry up and wait until they get this worked out.

So it is not a carrier specific issue, but looks like a iPhone 12 issue.

i switched back from Android to the 12. I noticed right off the bat that I wasn’t getting messages from Android. Walked through trouble shooting with T-Mobile and apple without positive results, so both referred my case to engineering departments. on a whim, I tried changing the messaging app on my wife’s phone (Android) and my work phone (Android)- this solved the problem for texts from those two phones. Both phones were using messaging apps with RCS enabled. I wonder if it’s a compatibility issue with phones with RCS enabled?

I am also missing some messages in group messaging.

Spoke to a tier 3 tech, integrated messaging toggled off during the upgrade process according to the removal date stamp on the code. He reactivated it and appears all are working now. He said normal tech support or even chat can see this specific code if you ask about it and it’s a simple toggle in the system to turn back on. It’s often overlooked because it’s not a “major” code, but instead a sub code or SOC as they call them! So chat in and check “integrated messaging”

When I google this TONS of people are having this issue that upgraded to an iPhone 12. I upgraded to an iphone 12 pro just the other day and instantly quit receiving texts from many android users. I have verizon myself, but a quick 10 sec google search shows the carrier doesn't matter. T-mobile, att and verizon all have users on iPhone 12 that are having this issue and most state the issue started the moment they upgraded. Interesting thought this might be related to the ios upgrade; however, whatever the issue... it started only after the physical upgrade for me specifically. My iPhone X was on latest ios as of 3 days ago.

Any advice on this would be great. I'm missing extremely important texts from work and personal.

In terms of the comment for "integrated messaging"... isn't that only if you are using verizon message+?

I and I think most people are using the regular message app on the iPhone. While most of us are saying it happened when we upgraded to physical iPhone 12, some are saying simply the ios14 caused the issue. Either way, I think its related to one of those and not a verizon specific app.

This happened from time to time on my 11 Max pro but not frequent enough for me to care. On the 12 pro it’s making me regret my purchase. We have a group family text and with covid that’s how we stay in touch and sane and I’m getting very few messages in this group now. My aunt was dying and I was missing updates that thankfully my brother was sending me in a side text because they know I’m not getting my texts. Super frustrating. I’ve read that this is a known problem with group texts for Apple users and we had joked in our group before when me, my brother and mom would get kicked out of the group after updates but now I’m just extremely disappointed, frustrated, and dissatisfied with my upgrade. I hope this gets fixed soon. I can’t keep my iPhone if it doesn’t. I love apple, I own all apple products but I love my family more.

To me this essentially confirms that the issue is network related because the iPhone 11 doesn't support or need 5G, but the iPhone 12 does. I suspect that 5G isn't ready for primetime like all the carriers advertise, and the recent massive influx of users I'd causing these issues. Or at least that's what I suspect is happening but I don't have anything to cite that would "prove" this to be the case.

If you are referring to tier 3 support at your carrier, what carrier is it? And, do you think this is something we can all get corrected by calling our individual carriers? Of course, Apple should be taking care of this with the carriers, but if there’s a way for me to get this fixed now with my carrier (AT&T), I’d love to know.

Thanks for any further information you can send!

"Of course, Apple should be taking care of this with the carriers"

Why? Do they provide your cell service? Do they maintain the infrastructure that handles SMS and MMS messaging? The answer to both is no. The carriers are dropping the ball with the transition to 5G (something predictable and why I'm surprised that Apple included 5G this year at all instead of holding off for a year like they did with 4G) and that's their problem to fix, not Apple's or any other cell phone OEM for that matter.

Possible Verizon work around... download the Verizon “messages+” app. The group texts will go through there. Obnoxious you need a separate app for group texts but at least you don’t miss out on things... I did also see something about turning off iMessages and then you can use the normal text messages app which I’m currently testing. So far so good but again obnoxious that the carrier and Apple can’t get together to figure this out, especially Verizon whose partnership they touted in their latest release
