My iPad is dead and won't charge. When plugged in ( I have tried different cords & such) I press to turn it on and I get the battery with plug icons then it goes blank again. I have tried the hard reset and cleaning the charging port. No luck. I am hoping for a miracle from someone who can help without having to pay an arm and a leg to fix it.

Sounds to me like you need to make an appointment at the nearest Apple store for an evaluation and explanation of your options. I suppose you have already checked this link?
At some point we must admit defeat. Looks like a trip to the Apple Store is in your future...
