How can I disable snap-to-grid in the "preview" program (software that comes with apple OS)?

When editing in Preview, the program forces me to place an object in a certain location by jumping to where it thinks it should be - but I don't want it there. Can I disable this? (see blue lines)

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

As far as I can tell, there is no user control available to deactivate those automatic alignment guides that the program activates as an aide when n-tuple shapes are in proximity to one another.

There's no need to disable it. You can just continue to drag an object to where you want it.
