imap-mail.outlook.com “cannot verify server identity” error

What happens when you click the "Details" on the error popup message (See the Pic below)

Best would be to Delete and Add the email account that is creating the issue.

You may also try changing SSL settings

Settings > Password & Accounts > [Select the Mail account} > [Tape on Account with the email ID} > Advanced > SSL Settings > [Disable]

Click <Account (in Blue)

Click on DONE (in Blue) when exiting in the previous screen

Hi, I went into my outlook accounts advanced settings and turned the SSL in & off per another thread had mentioned it, and it worked! You might have to do it a few times.

Installed iOS 14.2 yesterday and all pop-ups re ‘cannot verify server identity...’ have completely stopped. Sorted! Thanks Apple...

I updated to IOS 14.1 yesterday and I observed for the rest of the day and I haven’t seen the annoying pop ups. It looks like it’s been resolved.

I tried what was mentioned higher up, turning the “Use SSL” off. Hit “Done” and then went back in and turned it back on. That does actually seem to have fixed the issue for now.

Go to Settings - Mail - Accounts and select the account your Hotmail account and remove it. IMPORTANT: make sure you know your password! Reinstall it using the Other Account option instead of selecting Hotmail. Hope it helps.

Remove the Outlook email account from your phone. If it is still needed you will need to correct whatever details are wrong in the account - or delete it and create it again with the correct details.

This is not a problem with details. I have this problem as well, started today. Microsoft must have a problem with their certificate. The pop ups are really annoying but I think we have to wait for Microsoft to fix the certificate?

I deleted the two accounts on my iPhone8 yesterday, but kept getting the error message. I didn’t delete them on my iPad Air. This morning, I noticed no error messages in the iPad, so I reinstalled the two mail accounts on my phone and no more error messages. This was clearly a system issue either with Microsoft or Apple but it appears to be resolved in my devices.

Its also a problem on android. Not just an apple problem, and its an issue with the hotmail/outlook server certification. My pop up comes every 4 seconds of phone use so now outlook is removed from the phone for the time being

Hi, I posted about turning the SSL on/off above. It worked for me, but yesterday the notification came back again. There was a difference though, this time it was less frequent. I turned SSL on & off again, and it has stopped again.

I deleted my MSN email account and reinstalled it. Seems to be working so far...

Your recommendation from yesterday appears to have worked. I removed the hotmail account and reinstalled it using the “Outlook” option. You’re awesome! Thanks

I don't think this is related to incorrect details, this is some kind of cert error. Everything was working on accounts for a long time previous with no error. Something else has changed. Cert shows valid till oct 2021. Intermediate authority missing maybe? Deleting and re-adding account seems extreme for a cert change (these occur every year or so, right?)
