watch stuck in pairing-update loop

I just updated my watch. When it was done I was told to pair it with my phone. When that was done it tells me an update is available & gives me no option but to update again (which takes hours). Then, I'm back to being told to pair. I tried not pairing, and resetting to factory settings but after it did that, it told me to pair. I can't use my watch at all. Any advice? Thanks.

Hey there maccleary,

We understand you're experiencing an issue with pairing your Apple Watch and being prompted for updates, and we'd like to see how we can help out.

First, make sure your iPhone is up to date: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Also, check to make sure the date and time settings are set correctly: Set the date and time on iPhone

On your Apple Watch, hold the Digital Crown and tap Reset. On your iPhone, head to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and check for the watchOS update. If you see it, delete it by swiping left. Then try pairing your watch again.

We hope this helps.
