iMessages going to my laptop not my phone

My iMessages and texts are being received on my Macbook but not on my phone.


I know that when I have the app open on my laptop, messages are received here before they're received on my phone. However, the app on my laptop was already closed (using the right-click > quit > remove from dock method) and when I opened it, I had messages from people from a few hours ago that I, not only didn't receive a phone notification for, but that just weren't appearing in my chat history with them.


I sent a new message from my laptop and that appeared on my phone, but none of their messages.

Additionally, my laptop was in sleep mode while this was happening, so I don't understand why there would be any kind of interference.


I've tried quitting and re-opening the app on my laptop but I still haven't received anything on my phone.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We understand you are experiencing some issues with receiving iMessages on your iPhone. We are happy to provide some help with this.


We want to determine if your iPhone is currently set up to send and receive messages. To check on this, please navigate to Settings > Messages > and ensure iMessage is turned on. Also within that screen you should see a section titled "Send & Receive". If you tap on that, you want to make sure you see your phone number listed there with a check mark next to it.


Take a look at these helpful articles that goes over how to set up iMessage and some different settings to check to ensure your device is provisioned properly for Messages:


Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
