how to change phone number is profile

I transferred data to a different iphone 8 plus (was my daughters phone) and her phone number is in my profile (settings/name/name, phone numbers, email/reachable at/edit). When I try to "add a phone number", my phone says a code will be sent to my number but it does not come through. This apparently needs to happen when the phone number is changed. I am thus unable to send group messages or messages with pictures or messages to anyone that doesn't have an iphone. I have restarted phone and checked all MMS & SMS settings.

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like the device you transferred to may still be signed into by the previous user, or shoeing the previous users number, correct? If so, we can help! We may need to gather a few additional details to isolate the issue further.


You mentioned you transferred your data but the phone number still shows as hers, did you change the SIM card to remove the one with her number?


Were you sharing an Apple ID?


If your number isn't active on the device, the code wouldn't be deliverable to it. Do you still have the old device? If so, can you receive the code on it?
