iPhone Keeps Randomly Crashing, Rebooting, and Showing Extreme Battery Drain

After updating to iOS 14.0.1, my iPhone 7 Plus keeps randomly crashing, rebooting and then showing 10% battery, after being at close to 100%. Why is this happening, and what is Apple doing to fix it??? At this time, you can't go into an actual Apple Store for repairs because of Covid. Good luck getting ahold of anyone on the phone that can actually help. Is this Apple's way to force people to buy the new iPhone 12??? My phone has been perfect and battery typically lasts a day and a half on consistent use, Now has to be plugged in and charing 24/7, and still randomly crashes and reboots. Isn't this how the last class action lawsuit against Apple started?? I have screen shots of several crashes and reboots. This needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY!!!

Please don't force me to go to a Android phone!!

In your Screen Shot(s), did you notice what it states next to Battery Health? It states - Service.

You have a battery that needs replacement. They symptoms that you mention in your post are in relation to that. Peak demands by your iPhone's processes are no longer supported by the failing battery. Please have the battery replaced. Thanks.

Lawrence,

You don’t need me to tell you this, however you are correct. 14.2 GM has, supposedly, been released to developers only. It’s said that it was also released to beta iOS testers in the beta program BUT I can not find iOS 14.2 GM available anywhere to beta program participants. Thank you for keeping me honest... or well educated and informed. I appreciate that.

I really wish people would read the entire post before commenting... The battery health was FINE and well over 90% capacity prior to this update. "*You can mail your device to Apple if there’s no store open nearby." Can you live without your phone for an undetermined amount of time?? I use my phone for work every day. Why is this so **** hard to understand???

I don't expect perfection, but I do expect something to be thoroughly tested prior to releasing to the public. I've been in IT and a consultant for many years, and if any of my clients ever experienced anything like this, we would be expected to fix it immediately. I'm probably just blowing off steam.... I will likely buy the 12 Pro Max when it comes out, just because I have always had the latest tech from Apple... Spec-ing out my new MBP as we speak.

mistterius,

I absolutely agree with you. I completely understand your frustration. As I have posted in response to someone else, I come from the hard drive microcontroller firmware development arena. Our product functionality requirements are extremely high and testing is an intensely vast process and no firmware goes out with out a 100% score on every test. Yes, customers would instantaneously flee if our devices did not securely protect their data integrity. Apple iPhones are a very different animal that it took me years to adapt to its reality. Apple, in my opinion, is always producing so many different feature that are truly meaningful, always giving us more operations, abilities at a scale and rate that is actually hard to keep up with. The by product of which are bugs and that is the Apple realm of reality. But I absolutely understand your position and frustration.

Great advice. Perhaps you can also tell me why there was not one single problem with my phone prior to the update.... Because you can't. Battery health was perfect prior to update. But whatever... You win. You are a GOD. If I could revert back to the previous iOS I would prove it to you, and you'd see that I'm not just ******** to ***** and complain about something...

I totally understand where you're coming from. But if you talk to any of the technician-wanna-bes here, they will tell you that your battery is bad. That seems to be the default answer. I have a friend that just got the 12 Max Pro, and has already replaced it twice because of the iOS update that "ISN'T" the problem. I, myself, have succumbed to the need for a reliable device, and since I can write it off on my business expense, I just went with it and bought the new 12 Max Pro, and so far, so good. I will not be doing any of the iOS updates until I do some research on the updates prior to installing them. I hope you get the opportunity to read my entire thread of frustrations on this. Kind of make a person wonder how many times thing have to go down the legal road before something actually gets fixed.

Hi mistterius,

I don’t know much but I did know a new battery would do nothing at all to fix the problems you are having. Yes, this community is made up of regular users who have knowledge to share, advice to give, opinions to present, passion behind their theories regarding issues, etc... but mainly we are here to help and get help with iPhones. You have 100000 people, you could receive 100000 different opinions. It’s frustrating to have so many different points of views and opinions regarding one issue and that is what we do here. We present you with a number of viable options to pursue towards fixing your issue AND you get to root through them all till you decide which one you will attempt first. There are NO guarantees or warranties on this site, that with our help, your issues will be resolved. All we agree to do is TRY to help the best that we can. So, now it’s a fact that your battery WAS not the problem, you know that because many took the time to present their opinions and replacing the battery won as the next thing to do. So, what will you try now?

Hi sir. I have he same exact problem. My iphone 11 pro max with 100% battery capacity 100% charge randomly shuts down then after reboot, (sometimes multiple looping resets) shows 10%. After restarting it sometimes goes back to 100%. The shutdown occurs randomly. I dont think this is a battery issue because if you leave the phone locked while on flashlight, it just goes on bright for a day without restarting.
