Here's how I copy my personal video DVDs:

1 - mount the DVD master disk on the Desktop.

2 - copy the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to a folder on the Desktop.

3 - name the folder to what you want the disk to show once burned and mounted on a computer.

4- launch Disk Utility and select the File ➙ New Image ➙ New Image from Folder option.

5 - select the folder to burn on the Desktop.

6 - select Encryption: none and Image Format: read-only

5 - click Save.

6 - mount the disk image and launch DVD Player (you'll need to use the File ➙ Open DVD Media and select the VIDEO_TS folder to play) to make sure the copy is good and plays as it should.

7 - put a blank DVD disc in the optical drive.

8 - Control (right) - click on the disk image and select "Burn Disk Image XXXX to disc…" from the contextual menu:

9 - in the Burn window select the slowest speed available (2x-4x if possible) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

It's good practice to "rest" the optical drive between 3-4 burns to let the unit's lasers to cool down.

Give it a try and let me know how it went.

Consider Virtual Machines:

Consider using a Virtual Machine, and then running the burning software off of that. Virtual Machine programs include VMWare Fusion and Parallels. This would allow you to use Windows-Only compatible software for buring disks - something you might be able to perform in older DVD burning software versions of older Windows operating systems.

Thanks a lot for your Toast information, after I unsuccessful tried others on the market, I ordered TOAST 19 Titanium and ran against the wall as well. They at least still trying to find a solution - maybe the next days. They advertise that copying DVD's

is possible with TOAST 19 Titanium but we will wait for their final word.

Still very much disappointing that Apple lists several products for copying DVD's and obviously none does. what a pain in the neck buying a 27" iMac very recently for close to $ 5000 and no solution offered from APPLE - what a shame.

Will keep you informed, thanks again

Thanks, unfortunately the famous APPLE does not accept e-mail contact other than in the community groups.

Consumer need better attention to reported problems. After more than 20 years of Apple customer and so many problems after upgrades I am really disappointed and frustrated. Advising customers in need to approach the community I see as a very helpful way but such should be done from Apple as they have to learn from the problems, which they do not, too bad

You are welcome.

Just for Note:

  • My Use of VMs is or Windows-to-Mac:

I used VMWare Fusion to transfer to Mac (10 years ago). Then be certain to bridge the connection. You can do a load more on the Web, especially if you are restricted to using Windows when performing home-school-classes or working-at-home.

  • Accessing Web on a VM:

When using a Virtual Machine, and you need to access the Web, there are three things:

  • Enable: FTP
  • Enable: DHCP.
  • Bridge: the Connection

Wow, thank you for your response. I produce only my own DVD's, non commercial of course. I am in Nature Photography and have many videos made but lost several now needed data due to moving from an older iMac to a new one, so I depend on my own Master DVD's to make a few more copies. Until recently I was able to make those copies but now it seems to be impossible, your help will be very much appreciated.
