missing music after changing phones

Hi everyone-

I just got a new iPhone 12. Transferred everything from my iPhone X, without any trouble. Then I started a trial of Apple One. But after much debate, I signed up under a different Apple ID (long story, maybe a big mistake). And I also turned off iTunes Match. So, lots of changes at once, unfortunately. But now I've noticed that a lot of my playlists are missing. It's the same on all platforms (iphone/ipad/mac). They're in sync- and missing a lot of music. And I tried logging back in to the old AppleID, and still didn't see the music.

BUT- I still have my old phone. I just turned it back on- and all the music is there!! So my question is- how do I get all these old playlists out of my old phone and into my new phone?? Can anyone help? I don’t know if the problem is the new phone (I sort of doubt it) or turning off iTunes match (quite possibly but i'm not sure how to put it back), or the change of AppleID on my music account. Some of my custom playlists are there, so it's not like everything is gone. Just some of it. (including the one I really want....)

Content in your iCloud Music Library is connected to a particular Apple ID. Switching IDs will have been the cause of the problem. You may find it difficult to switch your new iPhone to your old ID due to something called association. See Authorization vs. association - Apple Community for background. Maybe Apple Support can help. Alternatively see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - Apple Community and pull all of the media from the old iPhone into an iTunes library which you can then sync to the new one. Note however that you cannot copy anything that comes from an Apple Music subscription with this method, it would only be your own purchased and ripped media.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. You cannot move purchases from one Apple ID to another or merge IDs. I don't know if things have changed but my recollection is that you can only update apps from the ID that is signed into the iTunes & App store so whichever ID is associated with the most (or most important) apps should probably be the primary ID that you use everywhere going forward. Family sharing can allow access to the past purchases from the other account. Apple Music can be funny about adding music to your cloud library that comes from another ID so it may be necessary to convert such tracks (e.g. to 256k AAC) to strip out the purchased details.

Note iOS device backups do not include media.

Ok after seeing some of your other responses, I see that you really know what you're talking about (thank you thank you!) so maybe you can help with the Apple ID issue.... Basically I have always had to have two separate apple ID's. One *my very original one from a million years ago) for my store/music purchases, and then a mac.com one for 'everything else'. And of course Apple won't let you merge them. And if I add my apple music (tv/One/etc) subscriptions under my 'store' ID, I can't share them. I had to add my 'store' ID as another 'family member' to my family sharing account and share that way, which seems clumsy... But the alternative was the juggle two different IDs and some subscriptions on one and some on the other- headache! So when I signed up for Apple One, I did it under my 'main' ID, thinking I'd try to go through the pain of migrating everything else over too. Is that even possible? or not worth it? Although I guess it's too late now, since i've already done it. So far things seemed pretty ok (for example, software update is still updating my apps even though as far as I know, I'm not logged in to that ID anywhere anymore). then I noticed the missing playlists.... I'm going to try to restore the library from my old phone onto my computer- maybe create a whole new library, if possible? Oh- I do have my backup of my phone that I made before activating new phone- maybe I can pull from that somehow?

Thanks. I’ll work on that today. At this point I don’t even know what music is mine anymore Vs apple’s. But it’s really just the playlists (the actual list/order of songs) that I want. (I didn’t want to change apple ID’s but i kind of had to- my original Apple ID is my personal email, which is just on my music/App Store accounts now. Everything else is on a second mac.com ID. But the Apple One wouldn’t work with family sharing with the original ID. It’s been an issue for years. I hate that they won’t let you just merge two apple ID’s.)

but shouldn’t an active Apple Music subscription let me access the same library, regardless of which account? Such a headache.

and what about iTunes Match? I thought that was supposed to scan my library and add anything that wasn’t in apple’s library, to my account? But now that feature is included in Apple one, so I turned it off.. (ie cancelled my auto-renewal)
