iPad Air 4 Battery Drain

Hi, I got an iPad air for drawing and the battery has been draining very quickly when the screen is off, almost as if the screen was still on. The only app I have is procreate and I have a apple pencil 2 paired with it. Any help would be appreciated.

As an update to my post a couple of weeks ago I got a new unit from the Apple store as a replacement because my compass sensor was broken. Apple refused to take it back or officially acknowledge the battery had an issue but because the compass was broken I was able to walk out of the store with a replacement unit in hand. The replacement is working great, couldn’t be happier. I am 100% convinced that a some sort of hardware issue was at fault. Maybe the broken compass sensor was drawing power when it was not supposed to or something. If you are having this issue I would recommend to push for a replacement, best of luck!

I contacted Apple again today via their online chat feature. The tech did another battery analysis remotely and said it is fine. They had no clue as to why my battery drain issues persist. They had a senior tech call me and he didn't help much at all. He said I'd need to send my unit in or or I can take my again to an Apple Store. I explained that I use my iPad for work and therefore can't send it in and wait 10~20 days for a return unit. I told them I had done this already and they did a factory reset to no avail and the issues persist. I asked if they could send me a replacement (charge me for it) and I'd return my current iPad back and then credit back to me when they receive it back. They said Apple won't do that. Then, the tech had me download the Apple Support app to set up an appt. Within 150 miles, there is no appt. available any earlier than next weekend at any Apple Store, Best Buy, or other retailer. Their online scheduler only goes out 8 days so who knows. No idea why no Apple Store or other retailer has any available appts. for at least 8 days.. do that many Apple customers have problems with their devices right now that need repair or replacement and that explains why all appts are taken in the next week plus within 150 miles of me?

I use Safari.

Unfortunately, none of the suggested performance improvement fixes have changed the unnecessary, unexplained battery drain. I have to charge my iPA4 at least 2-3x/24 hrs. I do, however, appreciate any and all posters' suggestions of help. Very kind of you. Thank you.

Apple needs to step up and do the right thing. I'm growing tired of the same old song. Even elephant orgs can loose stability with enough resistance.

Hi, same issue here. My iPad is 4 days old. First day out of the box after first charge... I’ve unplugged my iPad at 7am at 100% and came home around 5pm and the iPad was on 33%. No one used the iPad or anything and it was locked with only WiFi on. I owned an iPad mini 4 and it never had issues like that and I have the same settings on my iPad Air as my iPad mini had. My 5 year old iPad mini holds charge better than a brand new iPad Air 4. Been in contact with Apple and they said my battery capacity is at 100% and everything passed the test so they are unsure on why it’s happening. Apple needs to recall devices and provide us with new units or if it’s a software issue to release an iOS update ASAP as I don’t wanna charge my iPad every several hours not being used. My iPad mini not being used for overnight did not even drop 1%... but this is horrible... hope Apple does something soon...

I’ve exactly the same problem with my ipad air 4 wifi + cellular. I’ve tried to disable cellular but the problem persist. I have exactly the same graph than you in the battery menu.

Is there are a problem with ipados ?

In one night, with the ipad lock and in standby mode the battery start with 100% to finish at 0% ...

And the battery menu don’t tell me that a specific app take the battery.

First one I had had terrible screen bleed. Replaced it. This one has terrible battery. Didn’t have the first one long enough to test the battery really. I have gotten a refund through Amazon for this iPad now. The question is do I roll the dice and get another one ? I would be very disappointed to have to go through the whole rigmarole again.

I am half tempted to get the 8th gen, save some cash or bail out of iPad altogether and get a MacBook Air.

actually I spoke too soon. Battery drained over night by 10% with wi fi and bluetooth off. I got a refund on that particular ipad this morning.

I have a NEW ipad air 4 replacement device as of today. I am not confident that the issue will be gone as I am fairly sure it is software related. I will keep you all posted. The troubleshoot continues.

Maybe im an idiot and shouldn't have got another one of this model. Time will tell. I will be very annoying for apple customer support if this repeats !

I do not think it is easy to find out before the purchase that iPad Air 4 has a battery drain issue. Even if, I assume that Apple sells thousands of these devices yet apparently few make it to complain as we do. I would have hoped that mine will be fine.

I am waiting for a replacement device sent by Apple (a relatively smooth process) and hope to have better luck.

However, should the problem persist, I would definitely want my money back.

So sorry to hear that your supplier does not offer a 14 day money back guarantee. In Europe this is standard!
