iPhone12: Accessing the top (upper) right corner of my phone with Control Center

So, I'm sorry if I sound like a noob. I had an iPhone 7S and just upgraded to an iPhone 12. This screen goes edge to edge but a portion of certain apps or games are now hidden behind the speaker and camera making it difficult to read or play games. Also, I have started to notice that it can be tricky to access the upper corners, particularly the top right corner of my phone because Control Center is there. The most recent occurrence was not being able to dismiss an in-game ad where there is an 'X' because Control Center is located there too. Is there a way to reformat the screen to avoid that upper edge altogether? I notice that some apps don't have this conflict while others do. Any suggestions or setting that I can adjust? Thanks.
