Accessing upgrade program during lockdown

Obviously this is not Apple’s fault but does anyone know if it is possible to sign up for the Upgrade Program when it’s in-store only and can’t be done until Friday when the iPhone 12 Pro Max launches.

The only problem is the UK store will be in lockdown from Thursday - the day before - for at least 28 days.

Will Apple have a procedure online to sign up for the Upgrade Program during lockdown or do I just give up for the next month?

The policy for iUP with Apple UK has, historically, required in-person signup for the iUP loan. Only on the US Store has iUP available online.

I hope that Apple is able to organise something, be it a click and collect service or online application, in time.

Not necessarily such a surprising differentiation, EU laws governing Loan requirements and signage are vastly different than those in the US.

Evidently, the agreement Apple have with Barclays Bank for iUP requires an in person application for Loan payments to be established, I assume due to the optional upgrade at 11 months.

Interesting these requirements aren’t applicable for the 24 month financing options available.

I personally will be taking out the financing option then selling the iPhone 12 Pro Max privately when I look to upgrade to the iPhone 13 and settling the outstanding amount on the loan with whatever return I’m able to make on the handset and applying for iUP in a year less disappointing than 2020.

Sorry to hear that. I have been in the iUP for some time and have always traded my devices in at 12 months. It just makes it much easier and if I put enough of a percentage into use of the phone for business, I can deduct a portion of the monthly payment like a lease, and it works well for me. A new device every year, and I don't have to pay the entire loan off, just 12 months of it, and the balance is forgiven. Take care.
